Iron Man Mk 5 Helmet 3d print (UPDATE: REVISED MODEL)

Re: Iron Man Mk 5 Helmet 3d print (W.I.P)

looks pretty damn close to me.

In the movie, the FRONT VIEW of the helm does appear to be a little WARPED compared to the OTHER Suit Helmets, and it looks like Skylu3Design has added that into the Front View in the 1st post.

So good Job, from what I can tell :thumbsup

Re: Iron Man Mk 5 Helmet 3d print (W.I.P)

good job ghost, you just have sanding? or have you also putty?

Well, I've got a good bit of sanding and putty work to do. I'm ready to prime the rear detachable part and start polishing that down a little. Haven't had a great deal of time to sand because I'm preparing to move to another house. I did clock in some sanding time yesterday, though. The weather is finally warming up.:D

Like my Sneaky lid, slow, but steady.

Re: Iron Man Mk 5 Helmet 3d print (W.I.P)

would you possibly be willing to throw up a screen shot of a preview print for your makerbot of a few of the pieces? I want to see how you set them up and why when i try to do anything in the makerbot the previews look like crap or there are a loooot of unnecessary supports

Sorry man, I didn't save the files the way I chopped them up. It makes the folders so messy.:wacko

Anyhow, been doing some more sanding, filling and priming. Really happy with the way it's coming along. I'll post some pics once I get it cleaned up a little more. Was able to get some good time in this past weekend, hope to continue on it all week.

I did happen upon an interesting splash of red at the hardware store, so I grabbed a can and tested it out on the back piece. It's Rustoleum "Regal Red". What do you guys think?

I think the plastic look comes from the fact that it's glossy paint, not the color. In honesty, I think it's too glossy, but a flatter version of this color would look pretty sweet. I like it, at least.

Re: Iron Man Mk 5 Helmet 3d print (W.I.P)

It skews a bit orange to me.

Think it's my fault for taking the picture in the sunlight. Inside it seems a darker red. Maybe the gloss throws it off too, in that bright sunlight.

All in all, it is a bit too glossy for me. I don't mind a little shine, but it's Iron Man, not a Corvette.

Re: Iron Man Mk 5 Helmet 3d print (W.I.P)

Personally think the red is okay if like you said it should be darker than the photo, probably with semi gloss clear coat can bring down the red tone and much better with it. Nice work bro :)

Nice progress brother! Looking forward to see more! MK5 has always been a favorite of mine!

Re: Iron Man Mk 5 Helmet 3d print (W.I.P)

Fantastic progress! Looking forward to seeing this finished. As for colour I think you just have to decide on a paint that looks best in the light where you want it to be viewed/used primarily. (Natural light, Indoor, etc.)

Thanks guys :thumbsup I'm definitely open to trying other colors, I just happened upon this one and wanted to try it out.

Re: Iron Man Mk 5 Helmet 3d print (W.I.P)

So, big news with this one. My buddy skylu3design and I have refined the model some, and I'll be doing a re print. This one now has the mouth detail, and has the indentations on the side like in the movie. I'll also be sizing this one to fit a 24 inch head ;) Check it out!

I've already had a chance to print the new jaw with the mouth detail. I'm very happy with how it printed out :)

And of course, the current one. Been busy with this and another helmet, so not too much progress. Managed to work on the back of it a little. Still got so much to do, though.

Stay tuned :D

Thanks bro, means a lot coming from you! And definitely a big thanks to Syrus54! He went above and beyond with the reference.

I was hoping to get some printing in today, but got some obligations that have popped up at home, so I'll continue on tomorrow. I'll be working to get the new faceplate printed, and want to set up the main helmet with less cuts this time. More to come, I know this is turning out to be a long ride guys, but it will be worth the wait!!!
