Iron Man Mk 1 "finhead" helmet done

Hey all, Here's my finished Ironman Mk 1 Helmet from Finhead's wonderful sculpt. I took the photos outside at dusk, thus the somewhat warm look.

The finish is Rustoleum chrome, Future floorwax (doesn't attack the paint like most clearcoats - but it still dulls it some), some rust washed in the grooves, a bit of clear orange and blue along the welds (for the brazen look) then black primer over the entire thing. When that dried, I removed most of it with paint thinner. I repeated that a few times. Finally, I hit the welds and raised parts of the eyes with silver Rub n Buff - and viola!

That looks great! I've always liked the MK1.

I'm confused about your weathering technique tho. When you say 'black primer over the entire thing' do you mean just a light coat or as if you're trying to cover an old paint job?

Thanks! It was suggested that I completely coat it. but I didn't want to go that far. But it was a pretty heavy misting, esp along the edges, but virtually the entire thing was oversprayed.

With one more piece to add to the collection your display must be coming along nicely.

Mk 1 motivation must be in the air....I am feeling it a bit myself.

Yeah, must have been scary covering up the paint job you'd already done. Looks like a good way of giving it that old/used/kitbashed look tho. May have to give it try next time I have something to weather.
