wow those tops do look the part ... I may have to investigate further ... I started shoping around for fabric today to make a full body suit out of .. found some possibilities and found a two types that will work for lining the bucket and helmet as well
Thankyou Gaia! Big help knowing I'm being given some help in some respects.
Saber, would love to see the inner fabric you will be using.
Just applied the start of the third coat of resin, it is getting ever so close to being ready for fibreglass. Then the body filler I need to get and I still havent an idea of what to use. May have to have a think about it
Then the toughest part in my opinion. The Primer into sanding!
Also as well, big thanks to Neo since those body suit parts look good and if they ship to the UK then I'll be very happy
Big thankyou Laamberry!
I feel honoured to have you comment on this
Just applied some Fibreglass. Will try and update with some pictures before I go out tonight. Only problem I have had is when I cut out the eyes. It slightly damaged the outside structure for the eyes itself. DANGIT! But thank goodness for the invention that is Body filler. As long as it keeps its shape and the fibreglass makes it strong I can always just use filler to fix it.
Slowly and surely this will be completed. Was hoping to have ALL the fibreglass finished today, but bad weather has left me being short. Oh well, glad to be still progressing at the rate that I am.
Pictures are after my 3 layers of resin and last picture is the begining of my fibreglass. Was going to do some more today, was getting ready, was really excited, got dressed in my protective clothing, then remembered. I've ran out of brushes Oh well, I'll get some more soon and get this fibreglass finished. Guess I better start doing some more chores round the house so dad will get me filler and brushes
Re: Ironman Mk III - First Build - Pic Heavy (UPDATE 19/2/11)
Cheers phaeren.
I can't wait to get some more brushes and finish it off somewhat. I look forward to it.
Although, now trying to get hold of some pictures of every Mk helmets since my friend wants one made to go on the front of his motorbike! :O
Re: Ironman Mk III - First Build - Pic Heavy (UPDATE 19/2/11)
wow ... you got more done then I thought on the fiberglassing ... is it just the pic or did your bucket deform a little during the fiberglass stage ... that would suck hopefully just the pic ... but man keep going ... I am liking it so far
Re: Ironman Mk III - First Build - Pic Heavy (UPDATE 19/2/11)
Might be the angle that the photo was taken.
Although, there is the possibility that you are right lmao.
When I've got some more brushes I'll do one brush per side so I'm going to need 3 brushes in the slightest. I've also got the mentality that as long as it is tough and hits well and still holds the same kind of shape that the body filler will help it to look great again. It may take some more work that originally thought but that was to be expected when I first thought about doing this project.
You always have to look at the positives in life. The second you drop that positive nature is the second you start doubting. You start doubting and you don't want to do it. So keep head up and look for that positive.
haah Rondo is a mixture of Fiberglass resin and Body filller and the body filler hardener,
once you have about a cup of it mixed together nicely, you pour it slowly into your bucket then pretty much slush cast it around in the helm and it hardens pretty quickly,:love
just an alternate route if you dont like glassing the inside lol.
Re: Ironman Mk III - First Build - Pic Heavy (UPDATE 19/2/11)
Yeah, now that sounds good. Does the fibreglass resin come with like Fibreglass fibres in it? Sorry, sounds like a stupid question but I've never really had a keen interests in this kind of stuff before. I've just admired the suits and what not and wished I could make one.
Re: Ironman Mk III - First Build - Pic Heavy (UPDATE 19/2/11)
Nah, both of them are separate.
I mean you can still go the Rondo route, but i would separate the faceplate before you harden up the inside too much, and if the faceplate has enough resin on it, it should be able to hold it shape, and you would just harden the inside of the faceplate after you cut it off.
Re: Ironman Mk III - First Build - Pic Heavy (UPDATE 19/2/11)
Yeah, I'd love to do that. My biggest worry would be doing that and it crumbling apart or not being able to get it back on properly as I'm not thinking about doing hinges and stuff until I have finished the whole suit.
Also, think we should have an official tutorial subforum. That way it would be much easier to show people information. Wouldn't be too hard to do would it?
Re: Ironman Mk III - First Build - Pic Heavy (UPDATE 19/2/11)
Yeah, I would definatley recommend rondo, you can fully harden a helmet in a few hours. It's so quick. Basically it's just mixing a bit of resin into the body filler to thin it out so once you mix in the hardener you can just paint the inside with it.
And the tutorial subforum is a great idea, some of the info you need to help make the iron man suit doesn't apply to other stuff so it can be really hard to find.
