[Iron Man] Eskilax Mark 3

Re: [Iron Man] Need help and advices

maybe try mixing it up longer and adding a few more drops of hardener? I just started mine also and had a sticky surface so I just did about 2 tablespoons with 8-10 drops of hardener to do another surface coat and it dried and was not sticky after about 10 minutes but you have to work fast with that much hardener in it because it will stiffen up very quickly! Great job so far!

Re: [Iron Man] Need help and advices

Hey Guys.

Finally It works well !
I have to mix the resin/hardener during a long time (1 - 2 min).
And when I've applied the resin, I have to let it dry in another room (warmer) between 20°C and 25°C (67°F /77°F).
And after 2 hours, it's Hard (perhaps the hardener is a bit different and make it dry a little slower)

I've make a test of fiberglassing too, and it works perfectly.

Thanks guys for the advices. I'm gonna try this on a real piece of armor now. The shoulder when my pep is finished.

Am I supposed to make a thin or a thick layer of resin ?

Re: [Iron Man] Need help and advices

Hey guys.

This is a 95% scaled helmet.

It's really really tight. But if I cut the inside border of the ears, I think it will be easier to wear. It's already resined and fiberglassed. But before going to the next step (the bondo), I want to be sure about the proportions.

So what do you think about the proportions ? Correct or too little ?

Re: [Iron Man] Need help and advices

looks great man, glad you got the resin figured out, are you able to buy some extra hardener, when i work in cool temp i add extra hardener and it seems to do the trick

Re: [Iron Man] Need help and advices

Looking awesome, I am getting ready to start my own pep helmet, the threads here and at the 405th have been awesome help.

trying find another model as dungbeetle has pulled his files due to people ripping off his work and passing of as their own.

Question for all those that have done this before, I have been unable to find 110 lb locally but a printer here has 100 lb, will it really make that much of a difference.

It will be good with 100 lb.

Re: [Iron Man] Need help and advices

Hey guys.

Here is a torso update. The back is resined and fiberglassed.
I'm not really happy, I think the shoulder parts of the back is too "curve".

What do you think ?

Hi guys.

Yes this is another Ironman costume thread :)
Yep this is another Pep Ironman costume thread :)

Here is my first test of Pepakura.
What do you think ? the shapes looks to be good ?

It will be my "Test" helmet for the resin, because I'm not able to put my head in it :S. I'm 5'7'' so I have the great idea to reduce the scale to 95% ... what a mistake :). It was possible before I "glue" the back piece , but not now.

Here is the pics:

Hello! Good work!

The helmet is as we see in the pictures? or did you cut back and below the ears?

I´ve a problem. I have finished my helmet, I think the size is correct (it's big and like yours) but I get the head opening is very small.

http://www.therpf.com/showthread.php?t=88308

I did something wrong or do I have to cut the neck?

What do you think?

Re: [Iron Man] Need help and advices

Hey Alkimistta,

You have to cut the back. Look at the post #4 of this thread. Finhead show where to cut your helmet.

Re: [Iron Man] Need help and advices

Hey Guys.

Finished to pep one shoulder and the neck.
What do you think about the proportions ?

On the second one, there is a very bad photoshop shoulder added, but you cannot miss it ;)

Re: [Iron Man] Need help and advices

Beautifully pepped!! I love seeing that chest put together. I think you want to pull the shoulder parts of the back a little bit more back, here's a reference to how they should sit together.

Hey DF.

Thank you, you are right about the shoulder. If you have a side view of the shoulder and torso together, I will be very interested.

And thank you again for your designing work, your modeling is really beautifull !

Thanks Eskilax, here's an image of it from the side, though I'd almost say that the shoulders could go forward a little more.

Re: [Iron Man] Need help and advices

This looks amazing so far!! Very clean pep work and you're progressing quickly..keep it up!

I have to ask, what kind of camera do you use?

Re: [Iron Man] Need help and advices

so for a complete idiot (me) is the helmet resined as one piece then cut after moulding or moulded in 3 pieces?

Re: [Iron Man] Need help and advices

Can I ask a general question, I'm using 180 grams A4 is this strong enough to build the armor and helmet with?

Awesome Job on this build by the way, very sharp folds!

I appreciate it very much that you guys are making all these pep files available for everybody, who wants to get into this :)

Re: [Iron Man] Need help and advices

Whenever I make my helmets I use tile adhesive(it acts like cement) to smooth out and harden my helmets.

Re: [Iron Man] Need help and advices

First thanks to all of you for the congrats, it's really motivating me !

I have to ask, what kind of camera do you use?

Canon EOS 450D with a 18-200 lens... and I love it :)

Thanks Eskilax, here's an image of it from the side

Perfect ! Thanks again, exactly what I need.

It's resined in one piece and then I cut in 3 pieces.

I use A4/200 grams paper. Perhaps a 180 grams paper will be a little to thin ... Try to find a 200/220 grams paper to be sure it does not bend when you will resin it.

-------------

And now a little update. I've finished to resined and fiberglassed the chest. So I've make a little test.
It fits perfectly ! What do you think ?
