Maybe I have been looking in the wrong place, but is there build sites out there for the mark I cave suit?

Any templates or build tips, etc?

Thanks!

Considering he's not willing to share any files, I don't think that's a lot of help to adamata.

in his defense, he has 3D models, not pep files/templates

It's not something you can just share. with the public.
They're going to be used for 3D print according to the thread.

Right, but every pepakura file started as a 3D model. I'd figured you'd know this more than anyone.

I don't think Finhead needs defending. It's his prerogative if he doesn't want to share his (highly sought after) content.

I'm fully aware of that. But that's not to say that models can't be converted to different file formats. A 3D object is a 3D object.

Of course they start as 3D models but the intention was for 3D print, not to make pep files out of. You make it sound like anyone who models something or obtains the models, has to release it to the public.

So making him look selfish like this is why I'm defending it.
People don't need to share anything here. They choose to when they feel like it.

Especially considering those types of files are very hard to come by, and not intended for public distribution

Yes this is the idea. Print a 100% accurate suit along with my production made pieces so this will be the most accurate suit you'll be able to get.
We will be starting with the helmet and working down from there, as we go I'd watch the JY. ;)

I think you're unfairly putting a lot of words in my mouth. I don't think I ever called him selfish; adamata asked for templates, Jedifyfe linked to Finhead's thread, and I said the thread wouldn't be useful because there's no templates or any files at all. Which is correct, right? There isn't anything in his thread that would be of use?

And then you said his files were for 3D printing and not pepakura (which I'm not sure how that's related to files being distributed in general, but okay), and I clarified that 3D models are 3D models.

As for the rest, maybe I've spent too many years as an open source programmer. "Sharing is caring" and all of that jazz.

are you annoyed that he doesn't share his files?

I never said you called him selfish. Your posts imply that on their own.

That's what lead me to my conclusion.

I think "puzzled" is a better word. I personally am indifferent, I think the Mk 1 is ugly as sin, so it's not like I'm losing out here. But like I said, I come from a world where people sharing for the sake of sharing is the norm, and it's really alien to me for a DIY-centric community to shunt the sharing of information.

Often times, in situations like this, the arrangement that allowed one party to acquire files such as these does not allow them to be distributed in digital form.

Not saying that's the case here, just that it can be the case.

In the end though, not everything is free. And especially given Clinton's history of quality, a casting from him is worth infinitely more than the digital file it came from.

Guys no need to hammer this out. They wont be released for Pep or anything of that nature. Been a long time getting these, they were not cheap to come by and I'm using to create a 100% accurate suit which was the whole purpose in aquiring these files. Not holding out on anyone just can't see giving these out as fair, who is that fair to?
Regardless not up for debait as Steff already said these with be ussed for 3D prints simple. :)

I think the people who enjoy the DIY aspect of costume building would disagree. There are plenty of people who would rather make something on their own than buy a completed product.

And no one is stopping them from building. Pep is the "long way" to do a build. Its biggest benefit is that it trades cost for time. But if people want to make this suit there is still dozens of other ways it can be done. (Clay, Foam, Modding something existing, carving, sintra, etc) Amazingly, this hobby existed before pep, and it will continue even if it ceases to exist.

Keeping one set of files proprietary doesn't limit the creativity of anybody.
