Iron man 3 Mk 8 in pepakura - A collaboration work

That's some BS toy. Don't take it as gospel. Those extra lights won't be on the real suit. I have collected just about every picture of the mark 8 the the Internet has to offer and there is no sign of those lights on the chest or head.
Also, thats not one of the high quality 1/6 scale models. It's a small action figure. There is quite a bit wrong with it. You notice these things when you have been scrutinizing the mark 8 for a month as you try to model it in 3d! :lol

I have a feeling the extra lighted areas are because of poor painting or something. The ones in the helmet definitely don't seem intentional.

Though I have to disagree about the color, I think the gold looks 100x better than the beige. IMIM2 - You should look into DupliColor paints, a metallic champagne type color would match the stunt suit colors we've seen really nicely I think.

Apologize for abandoning this project for a while.

Thank you for the nice comments guys! It keeps my spirit up as this project got more downside than the upside.

Special thanks to quovadis0920 and TribalGrind. Your WIP are very inspiringly awesome (you have no idea how I SMURF Helagak earlier about your SMURF). I don't know about Helagak, but I used your build as benchmark (hope you don't mind :confused).

Msleeper,
It'll be too much work for foam pep for sure (Mk5).
Identifying parts will be a nightmare too.
As much as I want to do that, I see a lot of steps need to be done.

If anybody want to do collaboration work with me, I'd be happy to try it out. I have a bit different approach for this suit. I've been thinking about this suit a lot, but I am limited to current resources (skill, knowledge, budget, and most of all: patience). But the biggest problem of all, this suit should be wrapped tightly, so building it without scratch build skill would be quite impossible.

This Mk8 is definitely not for beginners even with pep file (I myself is a newbie). At this point, we are still struggling with the soft copy files. Wait until it gets into real foam build. Frustration level will rise fast.

Helagak probably hate me for my comments and corrections, but I tried to put a lot of details. With our skill limitations, hopefully the build will come up nice.

Basic approach to this build is about the same as Mk5: Make general outline and add the details. I used the terms "plates" consist of "red", "gold", "silver" and "grey". The grey is more "parts" instead of "plates". The 3D objects consists of these plates. The difference is that MK5 got more plates and "grey" than Mk8, but now I got an idea on how to "cheat" that.

Yes thanks for the mention...My suit is finished now....i hope my suit helps anyone who desides to take on the challanges of the MK8

msleeper,
Duplicolor = $$$. Anyway duplicolor is not available in where I live. Tribal is using Krylon, they might sell it here, but it also expensive.

What do you think about the gold color on my helmet and forearm? Is it that ugly?

Tribal,
wooo...hooo......very nice work man. Should put a tatoo for your trademark , and of course, collect the money :love

I know progress is slow IMIM2 has real life work issues and I am in crunch time working on mine and my wife's suits or Halloween. But work does continue on the old mark 8. We just have to deal with some scaling issues and error checking.

Lol! You probably haven't even heard of taking pics of your screen... :lol
It's my work computer. I do all my posting from my phone. It was the end of the day and it was just easier to take a picture! Haha

My theory on painting the suits is who cares...look at the movie armors those need a repaint after everytime he fights something lol....i would use,a tattoo for a trademark but what im really thinking is the IRON MAN Mark TG1..in other word im gonna design my own version of armor. If i were iron man this is what i would look like kinda thing no references 100% mine

I have to disagree completely. I think paint can really make or break a costume, the same goes for detailing and distressing for adding "damage". Using metallic based colors (like DupliColor) really makes the suit not look quite like foam. I can't tell you how many people asked me what I made my suit out of and they were totally blown away when I said foam. The higher quality, metallic color really makes the costume look like it's metal or hard plastic, or at least anything but foam.

IMIM2 - I had to order mine through an auto parts supplier, I didn't pick it up locally. I'm not sure where you're located but you might be able to do that as well. You also might want to call around to any body shops in your area and find out if they are able to sell paint to you and you should be able to get it that way.

Where are the photos of your helmet/arms again? I looked back a little but wasn't sure what was what. Anything that's in natural light without being too blurry is great. =)

Why are you surprised with the blue glow between the panels? Whedon used this for his Avengers Iron Man suits.

In Iron Man 1, when IM shoots the unibeam at Stane, the armor around the chest gives off a glow as well. But I always took that as light from the arc bleeding out from between armor segments, rather than something "intentionally" lighting up. Same thing in the scene in Avengers when IM gets charged up by lightning from Thor, there's light that bleeds out from armor segments. Correct me if I'm wrong but that's the only time in the movie it happens.

I thought the light bleeding is coming from the gap between chest and abs, and that was bloopers.
The pics from quovadis clearly shown intentional "groove" to let the lights out (except for the helmet).

No comment on my gold color? Okay, that means its ugly then :behave. I found a beige color but it is not metallic. Hm... maybe it won't show :unsure.
As for body repair shop, nope. Although I can pay them to paint it. But it will be cheaper for me just to buy Krylon (if I can find the correct one).

Okay i agree with you on that. paint can make or break a suit...i guess im not worried about mine cause the only people that will see mine mostly are half drunk vacationers at night during Halloween.. I believe you,on the attention these suits make amongst a crowd..,my piece of crap 7 day build last year blew people away

They will be. They aren't ready yet. Still have to deal with some scaling issues and general error checking. :)

Re: Mk VIII -yes 8- helmet and forearm WIP

This is a truly junkyard, as in JUNK (except couple of them)
One didn't survive after painting it with paintball gun. Another one died because fiberglass experiment went wrong (look like dragonball's hair)
I donated two of my helmets already to my firend's kids.
These are the remaining survivors.

So if you are under 17 yo, you can get it for free. Or maybe if you come in person, you can pick 5 of them (except the bottom row).:lol

Ha, now I can look at Mk8 and go to sleep every night. Alternative face to look at other than my wife :love. Or I can place it beside her in the morning. That'll do.

I'm under 17 yo, if your offer still stands..?
