Introducing the "plasma" saber

So, I was thinking, what if the lightsaber was not fueled by a crystal, but rather by liquid plasma? What would it look like? Well, I had to get it out of my head, so I built one. Hope you like it...

cool idea, to me looks like kind of a mix between a saber and o/t Star Trek disruptor meshing... I like it :)

Thanks guys. I wanted the emitter to have a sort of blow torch look to it as it would be a particalized coherent fire beam that comes out of the end. The thing is all hardware, about $20.00 to build.

Very cool. If my wife didn't have a dishwasher scrubber that I can see the dish soap through it, I probably would never have guessed. Well, if it leaks, it will clean up the hardware saber. :)

Fun hilt.

Wow, this piece and the steampunk saber really stretch the imagination -- in a good way..

Beautiful prop. Anyway you can add an LED in there to light up the "plasma" ? ;)

Haden't thought about that. It was built to be a "background" prop in a fan film. Maybe in the Mark II plasmasaber? ;)

Cool. I like the use of perforated metal. Where did you get that?
[/b]

I got the metal from Hobbytown USA. It was a 9"x7" sheet for something like $15.00. I've used it for other projects as well. It was a flat sheet that I just VERY slowly and carefully rolled with my fingers until I got the shape right. The brass tube I got at a "Mom and Pop's" hobby store down the street from my house. The "plasma" tank is a solder tube that I got from Radioshack. I put dishsoap in it and sealed the end cap on. The handle is a sink pipe with an end cap. The emmitor shroud is a piece of stainless sheet that was dremeled and shaped the same way. The beam width and length knobs on the side are from something that I found in the trash. Working at the hospital is where you can get the COOLEST trash to make little odds and ends. Just make sure you disinfect it first. :lol The grips are cut from those self adheisive magnent rolls. And you may recognize the little caps that the wires go into on the plamsa cartridge as T-jet hubs. I can't help it, a TOS influence usually winds up in most every prop I make. :lol

Will kill your enemy but leave their dishes sparkly clean lol. I like the design, good work, kudos on the craftsmenship.

You could probably cannabilize one of those 'lava lamp' nightlights and get the sparkley goo out of that. Better yet, take the lightsource with it and put that in the saber as well. :)

Sweet.

The lavalamp thing is a cool idea but those lamps get searing hot to the touch so you'd have to be real careful about how you use it in the prop.
