Think you have what it takes to achieve the rank of Jedi Knight?

Show us your stuff with a lightsaber, in three separate Jedi Trials at Celebration 4.

In the Jedi Order, the Jedi Trials are challenges which are undertaken by Padawans to earn the title of Jedi Knight. These tests are very often retaken by those Jedi Knights who aspire to earn the rank of Jedi Master, and a seat on the Jedi Council.

The Trials were formal tests that were administered by the Jedi Council on any Padawan that they deemed to be worthy. The Padawan was tested by the Jedi Masters themselves in a controlled setting.

Now, for the very first time, the Council at Master Replicas has opened up the trials for all aspiring Jedi Knights (or, should they choose the path to the Dark Side – Sith Lords) to come and show their skills with a lightsaber at Celebration 4 in May.

There will be three separate competitions, and Padawans may enter any one, two or all three. Padawans/Apprentices please see the rules and regulations for each, to determine your eligibility.

FORCE FX BATTLE EXTREME
Designed to demonstrate both teamwork and lightsaber dueling skills, the Battle Extreme will include one-on-one combats, one-on-two or more, and team-against-team mock battles.

FORCE FX MASTER EXHIBITION
Designed for the Master Swordsman, the idea is to demonstrate discipline, grace, and a flare for the dynamic and dramatic.

FORCE FX FREESTYLE CHALLENGE
This is the “Rap Battle” of lightsabers – the entrant will show their expertise in a solo demonstration, pitted against another soloist.

Please visit http://masterreplicas.com/combat_trials for official rules and regulations, and to enroll in the Force FX Combat Trials today.

Damn, I'd whoop some ass in this if I wasn't on the wrong freakin' coast... got twelve years and twenty different weapons styles under my belt as a founding member of the ShadowPlayers Stage Combat Group in Raleigh, NC... an MR gift certificate won't pay for a plane ticket and a hotel room, though. *sigh*

I've been racking my brain to think of how one duels w/ an FX. They aren't the most resilient saber I've ever seen.

Simple, you just don't go at it like you're swinging baseball bats.

It's a shame they're only allowing MR FX lightsabers... :(

I would pay $20 to have someone slip in with a Hyperdine. However that wouldn't be fair as that would be like pitting a Hattori Hanzo vs. a wiffle ball bat. :D

Wow, I just read that people have to use their own FX sabers in the competition. :confused

People are either going to be so careful with the FX sabers that it's going to be too fake looking and boring, or there are going to be a lot of broken sabers out there with damaged LEDs. :eek

I'll bet the MR people will be selling a lot to people who want to replace their broken ones.
:lol

I expected people to use their own, there is really no other way to do this. If people were using MR supplied sabers they would just swing hard and bust them. Many people (sadly) only care about breaking things if they own them.
As for the contest it sound cool, and I am sure it will be a hit at the show - Good Idea MR. :D

According to the rules, none of the three events are for real dueling, but intended for pre-choreographed routines. Each team/contestant is supposed to enter a video of the routine before-hand.

It sounds like something that would be really cool to see. If this goes off well, I would love to see something like this at Celebration Europe.

Yeah, buddy. :thumbsup :thumbsup :)

I wish I was going - it would be awesome to put something together for it.

My son Michael and I go at it quite often dueling. As long as you do not land hard blows and can do glancing blows, you have quite realistic duals. The issue is not to get so caught up that you start hitting with the harder blows. We have cracked about 5 MR sabers that way. Lost one at the last Michigan show trying to train the kids on basic moves as well, so it is not that hard to damage one.

Michael and I do sabers battles out at Halloween each year and will draw a good crowd to watch us go at it. You can have very good saber battles that will look quite convincing if you practice enough and study real sword techniques. Works up a good sweat doing so and you do have to be in decent shape to really go at it for more than 5 to 10 minutes.

As for the dual against each other, that could be tough without some set dueling rules. Michael likes to move in close for a quick killing blow. You can get hurt quite easily by doing so from both dualist positions. Padding for the hand is not that bad of an idea either, both of us have gone inside to ice up our hands after a few bad blows "playing" out front. I love working with the Maul blade as well; you can really spin that around quickly to land multiple blows, choreographed, looks darn impressive from both duelist views.

Can I used my repaired Vader? It broke a while back, and I put on a 1/4" thick tube for maximum whack ability :) Put a ball outta the park with that thing.

pre choreographed.? NOOOOOOO here I was getting my hopes up that I'd get to beat the heck out of some un suspecting victim... >:D aw...
