Interchangability of Trooper Armor

This is probably like asking "How long is a piece of string", but generally speaking how "interchangable" is trooper armor? I ask because it has always been a dream of mine to get a full set of armor, but I'll never be able to get a whole kit at once. I thought of collection pieces over time, via trades and such, and was wondering how hodge-podge it would end up looking?

I'm hoping to get an efx helmet shortly and was going to start keeping my eyes open for tradable armor... perhaps my childhood dream will one day come true... :angel

Kind regards,
Magnoli

Well, seeing how many fan-made sets of srmour share a common source...I would say the odds are pretty good. Some kits are sharper, thicker,softer,etc...than others...but the sizing should be similar.

But the FX set is far larger than any accurate set....among other things.

ahh...Frankestein armor.

With work it can end up looking really good. But I also think that it could end up costing you more in the long run.

However, judging by your other work...I say go for it.

I think parts-wise, it would be fine, as long as there's symmetry. You wouldn't want an FX left forearm and a screenused recast right forearm, for example.

However, you'd probably have color matching issues. One man's white plastic is not the same as another's.

This is exactly what I'm doing. It gives you the option of upgrading parts over time and lets you select the best pieces. Also by getting seperates you can choose which variant to get.

for instance, I'm 6'2"ish and very broad shouldered so I've got FX chest plates and I'm going with larger shins and thighs to cover the height better and avoid gaps. I'm on a MRCE helmet as it tops the FX in accuracy and cost. Plus this way I can decide later if it's going to be ANH, ESB or ROTJ. :)

As for matching the colour, well plastic ages and yellows, some kits use slightly different stock and some pieces get roughed up. Paint is your friend until one of you clever blokes invents a way to bleach or tint the plastic!:lol

If its a EFX then its not an FX. Two entirly different helmets... But easily mistaken names.

If you ever decide to do a clone, I think that with the exception of the helmet, the Episode II and Episode III armor is very similar.

This is 1 of the best answers you could hope to get, spot on :thumbsup

another option may be to try and save up over time. If you put 20 dollars a week into your stormtrooper fund you would be suprised how quickly it adds up.

I agree, I tried this and I do believe it ended up costing me more in the long run, and the colouring was the biggest issue for me, when it was finally complete I just couldn't get past it. Different whites/yellows/greys that all looked white separately, but when close together or touching, didnt so much.

This is a great idea, its what I did after I sold on the frankentrooper, added that money with a little each time i could spare it and before I knew it I ended up with a set of armor that ticked all the boxes for me.

True, but I'm hoping to trade my way into a full set of armour. :angel

Thanks,

I fully agree that if you have say AP forearms and FX biceps with a little TE chest armour you are going to get variances in colour/finish as AP armour is glossy and TE is styrene that needs painting, what I would do is try and get hold of an FX kit and build that up to my specs, then further along the line you may want to trade/sell it to go for a more accurate full kit like the AP, I can totally see why you are going this route, its something I considered a while ago but I folded and bought a TE2 suit :lol
