Innerspace Miniaturization Chips

I ran a search of the Prop Forum, and it looked like there was some interest in these a while back. Well I'm interested today! :)

Looking at the DVD, I would guess the chips are machined brass. Here's some screencaps:

Is it something like that Richard Pryor swallows in superman 3? Or was it a screw.

Along with the heat sink as noted abovec... the "chip" itself is an actual TO-5 semiconductor with the top of the device removed to reveal the silicon chip inside.

Thanks for all the information. You folks are the best!

I ran a google search for the TO-5 Semiconductor and came up with this site: National Semiconductor

I'm not sure which product number it would be though.

I'm pretty excited about this! :D

The fourth screen cap shows that the chip is a 10 pin but other than that it would be a guess as to the correct model.

Just made this. It's a 9 pin TO-5 relay but I have had a trouble finding a 10 pin. Looks close but I will need to get a 10 pin to be screen accurate...

Awesome job Brad, it still amazes me how overlooked this particular prop is from such a fun granted slightly obscure film.

I know this is an old thread, but I thought I would post my "Photon Eco Memory Chip" I only made one so I can only miniaturize :0

AWESOME!!!!

Man I love these old props. I remember seeing this at the movies and loving it, and you did a hell of a job on the replica.

Very cool work!
Chris

Thats so cool, i love that movie.

Do you have a list of items used to create it??

I'd love to make a pair in the lab box

I may make some more of these, as I have the heat sinks to make about a dozen more, I made the chip part out of jewelry parts, the pins are wire that one would use to make ear rings(the part that would stick in your ear, the little chip is a peice of foil cut into a squar and glued in place with tweezers. The heat sink has a peice of aluminum sheet that I cut into a strip and wrapped around a drill bit of the correct size, after that I cut a thin peice of styrene into a tiny circle to make up the peice that the pins are pushed through, and that the tiny square peice of foil is glued onto. I may do a little tutorial for you guys with a shopping list. So you guys can build your own. Let me know if you guys would be interested in such a tutorial.

Always up for awesome tutorials :)

They'd make a hell of a pair of cufflinks ;)

Chris

Ok, I,ve got a couple days off comming up, I'll make little tutorial for anyone that loves this old gem. "we can make duplicates of course, but not by 9am tomorrow morning" lol
On a side note, has anyone ever researched the Puma 500 robotic arm? It was the arm in the movie that moved the chips around, and placed them in the sockets and stuff. It was an industrial robotic arm used in the manufacturing industry. That would be cool to have!
