I did this to a Bowen bust that I am customizing. Following advice on another forum I used Easy Off oven cleaner, the no fumes version.
Place the bust in a Zip-lock bag and spray it generously with the oven cleaner. Close the bag and let it sit for a couple hours. Rinse it off under running water while scrubbing it with an old toothbrush. Repeat until all paint is removed.
It will take several applications of oven cleaner to get it clean. I used a whole can on my bust, but it did work.
