Indy - Raiders of the Lost Ark props - What's good enough for display?

I want to put together a small Indiana Jones Raiders of the Lost Ark display that includes his jacket, hat, whip and maybe idol.

I know that you can spend a small fortune on those items if you want to go after the top of the line most accurate, but what about good enough for display purposes?

The jacket would get the least amount of scrutiny because it would be folded up. The whip would be coiled and have the hat sitting on top of it.

So, anyone have any recommendations on the less expensive alternatives?

Thanks

The best and cheapest you can get.

Here is Todd's first run whip in my collection. It's great for display, not for cracking. Though some people have got there Todd's whips to crack really well.

For the idol, you could also get one of those coin banks which are close enough at a decent price... There is a good thread somewhere on the board about them. All you need to really do is apply a nice gold finish to it. Todd's has it listed there too.

Jedifyfe, thanks for the link and I will definitely check his stuff out. The whip looks really good. Where is the idol from (is that the bank he offers just repainted)?

I will look for that thread, thanks... and gotta love those Pixar short films. :)

Pick up one of the idol banks. Fill it up with plaster of paris if you like to give it some weight. Spray paint it with Montana Gold Chrome.

Last I saw the banks dropped in price since they came out so now is the time to get one.
Just need to fill in the slot on top and paint.

Todd's jacket is also the cheapest available. In my opinion it's not great for wearing, but for your purposes it's perfect.

You do want the Todd's jacket. For what you desire you can't go wrong with it and his customer service has a great track record.
As for the idol, I'd personally stay away from the bank. The mold was not done properly and it has a distinctivly odd shape. Plus is just looks cheap. If you want the bottom of the barrel, get the bank and fix it up, if not I'd keep checking Ebay. Last week an electroplated idol sold for $100. Not bad at all and the casting looked decent for the stunt idol.
Then theres the Sideshow idol which comes with an awesome looking base. A little more than $100, but when you figure in the base the price if very reasonable.
Not sure about Todd's whip but I have heard good things. Hard to find a cheap version that exact American style of whip.

I have a jacket for sale in the JY that I think will suit your needs. :)

I know I'm kinda late to the party, but I also wholeheartedly recommend Todd's stuff.

Great products, great prices, and great customer service.

In the course of building my Indy collection I've bought the bag, both versions of the holsters, a gun, both web belts, shirt, whip holder, and I've been really satisfied with all of it.

If I needed a hat or jacket I'd get them from Todd without hesitation.

Todd's also running a sale right now too, so that might be an extra incentive.

I made a pretty decent sandbag myself..just needed some close fabric and some time. I believe the pattern is at Club Obi Wan. I also made my own holster and whip/belt holder from leather. Patterns are also available.

I recently started collecting Indy props myself, and between the Junkyard runs from members here, and Todd's Costumes, you can't go wrong. One thing I suggest, do a LITTLE bit of research at Club Obi Wan and here before you spend any money. Because you would be surprised in the difference in quality and pricing if you just sit back a wait.

If you do like I did, you can get a Jacket, hat, whip, replica Idol and Staff of Ra headpiece all for about 250 dollars. That really is a good deal if you break it down. Especially as you have some items selling for too much.

Todd's costume is the place to get your whip and leather jacket. There are a couple of really good runs of the Golden Idol here and on COW. And the Staff of Ra headpiece and other props are really inexpensive if you just wait for someone to sell them on the forums.

Good luck! I hope that helps you a little bit. If not, just ignore me completely and I will fade away!
