Indy Bullwhip

Who's making whips for Morgan now? I see they avoid saying he's doing them himself at this point.

Also, are they back to selling the old style whips or is that still the new handle design?

The new Aussie design sounds like an amazing whip, but I get the impression the handle design is slightly different from the iconic original?

It is important to realize that David Morgan as we refer to him is not a man...it is a shop.
He has For many years had 1 or 2 key employees that does some of the plaiting and grunt work. Untill recently he was still cutting all the laces, but I think Megan is doing it now most of the time.
Still, for me, a whip out of that shop, using all of his methods and techniqes, under his direct supervision is no less a Morgan.
As far as construction, they are the "modern" style most of the time. I did see a pic of one recently that looked like one of the late 80's whips. They are all a little bit different.

The Jacka is very different. Stiffer for sure. I think the handle is reinforced in the thong as well. It is Anthony DeLongis favorite, and he was the whip coach for CS. I don't know that much about Terry's whips...but would love to try one.

As a side note...
Joe Strain also supplied 7 whips for the Production of KOTCS.
These are assumed to be the whips used by the stunt crew, as none have been ID'd on screen. After the DVD is released we will be sure.
So...you can get an Official Made For The Production of Indiana Jones whip here as well. http://northernwhipco.com/Indiana Jones Bullwhip.htm Although not the hero "prop".
I have a JS Indy whip in 10 ft...it is the best made whip I have ever seen.

Old trilogy, Morgan, although as been noted the handles are now of a different length.

The new Movie Jacka or Strain although David Morgan supplied some to the production.

I, myself will be getting a Stain in the next few months to add to my collection of Morgans, vintage and new.

The Strain is nice. I think I will go with that one. $1195 is way to much. Thanks Everyone

I ordered a Strain 8 foot myself. It'll be my first whip.

At some point, I'd love to save up for a Morgan... just to have a Morgan. After owning a Strain, do you think I'll be disappointed in the Morgan? My instincts say, probably not, because I want it for the look and the historical significance.

Every whip is different, as is the handler.
No one would be disappointed with a Morgan...ever.

Strain already has the look pegged. Call Joe and talk about what you want it to look like. He is very nice that way.

Man, I love those things. I had a Morgan 20 years and more ago. Sold it because it was spending too much time in the closet.

I made a few Indy-style whips around that time, they looked fine but didn't have good weight due to my use of calfskin and cow splits. Man oh man did I get to hate braiding, I do not have the right temperament for that stuff. ;)

I had a 10' David Morgan whip that I bought back in '95. I sold it a few years back on Ebay. Kinda wish I would've kept it but I never used it very much. A few cracks here and there but mostly it sits in the closet.

The 10 footer cost me $399 plus shipping back in '95. You know what that size runs now? Yikes!!! :eek

I have been making bullwhips for many years and have made my share of indy style whips, even for a few members here at the rpf. I offer many different options in price and style. My goal ever since I started making bullwhips is to give that professional quality but at a very reasonable price. At this current time I am one of the cheapest when it comes to getting a professionally made Indiana Jones bullwhip. For those interested go take a look at my site. www.classicbullwhips.com, if you have any questions please feel free to pm me post here or just send me an e-mail.

Keep cracking

James
