I commissioned a Monkey Head Replica from Sporak a few weeks ago, (ahem, hint hint wink wink nudge nudge Bill :lol), so I decided that something I have been wanting to get for years, deserved to have a worthy display - the Cup.
Having researched the Cup quite a bit, it is to be noted that in the movie, those on the opposite side of Willie Scott on the banquet table get served their monkey head in different cups than her side.
This is what the opposite side gets
And this what Willie Scott's side gets
The difference is self-evident. One side gets a trophy-type base of the cup, and the 'hero' side gets what is basically a four-taloned base.
In the movie, you can see all her side of the table getting served with the 'talon' cups.
Ergo, I decided to go for the 'hero' cup.
Bill sent me the monkey head measurements a few days ago, so I had the basis for the correct dimensions vis-a-vis the replica head and the screen-grabs.
Did this over the weekend with what I had, and found in the house.
Basic starting tools - screen cap, plyers and an old hanger
A few cuts and twists, and the leg frame is done
A few more, and the shaft frame is made
Some air-drying clay / putty and some shaping tools
Frame is covered
The result after a few slices and pokes
Once dry, I cut the shaft down to size
Enter one wife's garden pot
Bottom 'lip' sanded down to have a continuous round curve
Pot centred
Base sprayed silver, and pot painted cream & gold
And the final result after fixing pot to the base
And finally, some photoshop magic to sort of see what it will look like like when I get the monkey head
Let me know what you think
