Well it all started a long time ago and not in a galaxy far away... When Raiders first came out, I just fell in love with the character of Indy and the movies and in my humble opinion.. Raiders being the best of the bunch. But I love them all.. But it was years later when access to the internet was the norm that my quest began .. Which to be honest was quite easy I found Indy Gear online which had all the information I needed to start my Indy Wardrobe.
The first peice I bought was the Wested Raiders Distressed, it’s a great Jacket. But really I should have went for the Original Raiders the Distressed one is to light in colour but it has darken down over the years of wear and oil and I try wear it every day.
Then I contacted M.B.A Ltd London they sent me a list of all the Indy costumes they provided, I remember them being very helpful with the sizes and to get exactly what I needed to have an Indy Costume. For example they asked how tall I was, so to get the right size length for the gas mask bag strap.
I ordered the full Raiders Kit.
Shirt : Raiders 15062 Medium INDYWEAR
Trousers Raiders #221 13951 32” waist 34” I.L
Webley Holster new
Gun belt with fixed whip holder came distressedTrouser belt came distressed
Original 1942 Mark VII gas mask bag with distressed leather strap
Which came to a total of, if I remember rightly £350.
I still have the original Plastic bags that my gear came in somewhere in the attic with M.B.A emblazon on them
Next was the Fedora
I opted for the Peter Bros Custom, I had read good things about them and I was not disappointed. I got the Hat measurement off Indy Gear.. Crown height, brim width, Ribbon width etc. P.B did a great job at a reasonable price too.. But i do feel sometimes that the hat measurements are possibly too big for my face and should be a tad smaller.. A good excuse to buy another one.. Which I never did and have had and enjoyed wear this one for years.
Next was the Whip at that time I could not afford a David Morgan and just bought a really Cheap Whip 8’ for £24.00 off of some country n western site. Turned out it wasn’t half bad it look the part and it could crack... and I still use it today to practice with... But it still wasn’t an Indy whip so a few years later I got my David Morgan 10’ bullwhip Wow it was like the Lamborghini of whips compared to the other one I had. Love that Whip, learned myself from DVDs and Adam Winrich YouTube vids and have had a lotta fun doing it...
The 3 things that I have missing from my Indy Wardrobe are a replica Webley, Gloves and the Alden shoes. For the shoes what I use is WW2 Corcoran Jump boots.
In totally it took me about a 6 month to put the main body of the costume together but it’s always an ongoing thing striving to get it as close to the original as possible. Other items I've collected have been the Golden idol, the Head peice to the staff of Ra, the Peacocks Eye Diamond, the Cross of Coronado....
I try to get out in it as much as I can Charity events WW2 displays and Conventions. I even went as far as joining a lookalike agency for some work for a laugh. Hope i have not bored you too much....
