indiana jones hat help needed

Hi there,
A good and cheap Indy hat for everyday use is difficult to find. And from which film, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Temple of Doom, The Last Crusade...

I would go with a Federation Deluxe IV from Akubra Hats in Australia, they make great hats, but they are more suited for a Last Crusade look (lower crown).

The best everyday hat is the The Henry from Adventurebilt (the makers of the Indy 4 hat), but it's more expensive :
Adventurebilt Hat Co. - Made to measure. Built to last.

I have both and have worn them all around the world from Peru to Cambodia and they are still in perfect condition. I had to have the Akubra rebocked by adVintage hats in Germany and Thomas did a great job in capturing the Raiders look !

Less expensive, you have the Todd's Costumes Downtowner :

Don't know about that hat but Todd makes some great costumes and he's a stand up guy !

You also have Steele & Jones in South America, they make some great hats :
: : : Steele & Jones : : : Equipamiento para la aventura : : : Steele & Jones : : :*

I would also highly recommend adVintage in Germany, he makes really good hats and he's simply a great person to deal with, he reblocked my Akubra and it's better than ever :
adVintage Fedora
He also makes a very nice low budget hat, the Junior Fedora.

You also have Bates in the UK, not bad if you want a regular Indy hat :
Outdoors - The Indi - Bates Hats

I wouldn't buy a Christys hat because they had some real issues with quality lately !

That's about it on the more cheaper hats. If you need more info, just ask or PM me, I have a hat from almost every maker... :wacko

You also might want to look at Garrison Hatters. I've got one of David's Raiders style hats, & it's AWESOME! As he custom makes all his hats, it could take a few months to get one, depending on his current work load, but the quality of his stuff is EXCELLENT! His prices are pretty reasonable, considering you're getting a custom hand made hat to your specific measurements. Here's a link to his site. garrison_hatters_update_2013 » Page 2 of 12 Hope this helps!:cool

search CURY HAT
There are rumors that this was made by manufactures in Brazil

Nope, Cury was the Brasilian company who made the raw felts for Herbert & Johnson back in the days (until early 80's).
The felts where than transformed and reblocked by H&J into an actual fedora hat.

Cury doesn't make hats or felts anymore. Many fans and hat makers are still looking for vintage Cury felts to block them inta an Indy hat.

Very nice :thumbsup.

Even if it's not exactly the right color, it may become a very nice Indy style hat once reblocked !
Personaly, I always liked the more lighter sand color.

I had an in depth conversation with the owner of Cury a few years ago on that topic. I believe that rumor began when an article in a Brazilian newspaper surfaced that claimed Cury made Indiana Jones' hat. It was speculated that HJ might have used them as a source 30 years ago. I don't think there's been positive proof of that (correct me if I'm wrong!) Paulo (the owner of Cury at the time) meant that they made the Indiana Jones hats for Stetson. To him, that was the same as making "the real Indiana Jones hat from the movie". He knew very little about the movies or even that there was more than one. We went round and round about that, but as far as 30 years ago - that was long before his time and he had no idea what went on. He wasn't aware of Herbert Johnson.

I would suggest Garrison or Penman. I have a Garrison Raider fedora, and am soon ordering a Penman Last Crusade. These hats are TOUGH and are not costume pieces. They WILL stand up to the test of time and use, and their makers have PROVEN that they stand by their products. Good luck.
