Indiana Jones Gloves?

Long time lurker.
Just registered.

I have a Ghostbusters 1 accurate custome complete with Pack and trap.

I'm starting a Indy costume.

I read stuff here and there about Indy's gloves. I seen somewhere they are Wells Lamont gloves but have never seen a model number or specs.

Any chance anyone would know.

Thanks

Great website.

I'm gonna look around to see if maybe the mom and pop shops have anything.

Whats the best way to weather them?

Saddle soap, brown and black shoe polish?

Wear them while doing yard work, weeding, digging ditches and the like! They will weather nicely. No really they do. That is exactly what I am doing! I hate doing it because they looked really nice brand new but Indy would not approve of such new items! Unless they belonged in a museum!

I agree, you can weather your gloves best by wearing them to do yard work. It doesn't take much. I distressed my Indy gloves through one day of digging out a foundation to a building.

You can also (as a substitute for the Wells Lamont, which are hard to find and expensive) get your gloves from www.toddscostumes.com. I have a pair and they are fine for Indy gloves. Wade Egan is another great source for some of the Indy gear.

Additionally, if you are putting together an Indy costume, you really should check out Club Obi Wan at www.indygear.com/cow. That is THE place for all things Indy gear. The makers of some of Indy's movie gear are also members there, and members have done research through 1st hand conversations with Ford, Spielberg, Lucas etc. to gather as much knowledge possible about the gear, so if you aren't a member there, you should definitely check it out.

Amazing stuff.

I still can't get over the amount of talent available here.

Thanks for all the info.

I'll look around.

The current Wells Lamont gloves you see most readily are those yellow things - I bought a pair of 'em, too, at Costco, before I knew better. I was going to buy a pair from Todd, but then I found a perfect pair at my local Home Depot for less than Todd's would be shipped. I had never seen them there before this year.

The ones you want are a sort of beige color - I believe they call it palomino - and aren't as rare as you might think, nor expensive. You just need to know what to look for.

Here's a link to a pair on Amazon in XL:

And here in L:

My XL's were $11.95 at Home Depot.

Cheers!

As the story goes, the original Raiders gloves were the discontinued Wells Lamont model 1123. The second best alternative, although inaccurate, was for a long time model 1130. However, one of the best available screen-accurate alternatives today is custom made and available here. You have a choice between pristine and distressed.

Yup, that's what we've been telling him. Welcome to the thread :)

Also, a bit of advice about buying Todd's pre-distressed gloves. I wouldn't recommend it. Todd does a nice job of distressing the gloves with paint and water, but the distressing will fade off, expecially if you put any leather conditioner on the gloves.

I recommend buying the new gloves and then beating up on them yourself for a day or so by doing yard work or something that'll get 'em beat up and dirty.

I'll try to post a pic of mine later.

Definitely check Wal-Mart... They have the Wells Lamont gloves as well as some identical Dickies, BUT the Dickies are really nice thin tough Goatskin. Way better dexterity with those.
