Got my Indy fertility idol through this week from Ozymandius, man these are great. I couldnt afford the metalized version unfortunately. So opted for a raw one to paint myself, I used Rustoleum gold and gloss clear coat.

The acrylic eyes really make it pop

Im pretty pleased with the results....

did you get the hollow two piece cast and complete it yourself? That's what I ordered. I'm playing around with various finish ideas, and leaning toward gold leafing it.

It is a hollow cast but was in one piece, with no base in. So had to cut the hatch in the hair line to get the eyes in as close as I could see the film ones were done and also gue on and fill the base hole with some abs sheet so its solid now.
Its a great piece

I thought about gold leaf, but I am using this as a costume prop and feared the leaf wouldnt be robust enough, theres so many layers of clear coat on mine Im hoping it will hold up well

Looks good, Oz did a great sculpt.

I got one of his raw hollow ones as well. Cut the eyes out and dry fitted them, did a little clean-up, then sent it off to be vacuum metallized. Getting the eyes in without doing any cutting was tricky, but manageable. I put a dab of hot glue with a string attached to the pupil, then used a metal coat hanger with a piece of clay on the end to get them roughly in position and drop the string through the eye socket. Once I had them close I used the string to get them just right and hold onto while the glue dried. Once dry I just pulled the dab of hot glue off.

Mate yours turned out awesome, I did look at getting the eyes in without cutting. But wanted to go as accurate to screen used as poss which meant I just had to put in the hatch in. I may even gof ro moving eyes at a later date, as they are held in by a strip of abs sheet and can be popped off.
Did you seal the bottom hole in your base?

Not yet. I wanted to fill it to add some weight, then seal the bottom. Just haven't gotten around to it yet, mainly because I haven't decided what to fill with.

Your eye placement is great as well. I had to estimate the pupil size I needed and I believe mine is a bit smaller than yours. I had to center the pupil a bit more on mine. Also, the eyes are the same, the shadows and reflection makes one look a little lazy.

Is there any consensus as to gold eyes vs. realistic eyes for screen accuracy? I'm seeing conflicting accounts online.

The idol on the pedestal (hero) had realistic eyes. It actually had mechanics inside the idol to move the eyes.

I prefer the realistic eyes. I believe the original had acrylic, but I opted for glass to give the most realistic appearance.

It would appear you were right. I had read that several versions were made, gold eyes, realistic eyes, etc.

Here's a blowup of a YouTube clip. Would you agree those are brown eyes?

Yup defo brown eyes in that picture mate, the close up hero is obviously brown eye'd, and I read somewhere that prop store said the one held up by Ballak out side the temple is also brown eye'd. I wonder if someone has the blue ray wether they can do a screen grab.
I think the gold eye'd ones just dont look right to me, be nice to know one way or the other, either wy if there was agold eye'd one then t would only be a rough stunt version

Just got the hollow casting. OUT-FREAKING-STANDING!

I can't wait to start this build. Gonna go research eyes now (doing happy dance)

By my measurements of the cast I just got, looks like between 24mm and 26mm eyes would be about right. Is that what you used?

Of course, I'm happy to. Belloq's looks golden-eyed to me, though.

I took a few more of the Idol too when I was getting that one. You can find them here.

I really can't remember. I tried going through my ebay history, but that one is too old and isn't showing up. I want to say the iris were 20 or 22 mm, but I'm not sure.

I think we're both off. I found a site with doll eyes. They measure in mm, across the iris. I just re-remeasured the eye opening, top to bottom, and I get 10mm exactly. So, based on all the screen caps, images in this thread, and such, I'm thinking 10mm is correct. now, since this site is out of stock, I just have to find stock someplace.

I misspoke, not pupils, but iris.

I just checked my paypal and here is what I ordered:
Glass Natural Flat Paperweight Eyes 20mm Hazel

Got them from bjsbabes on ebay.

okies, now I'm even more confused. That's what you used, or have they not arrived yet?

20mm (2cm) looks to me like it would go all the way across the eye openings.

Maybe I am not reading the tape measure correctly...lol

either way, nice work on yours. did not mean to hijack your thread with silly eye questions.
