Limited Run Indiana Jones Dial of Destiny Dial COMPASS AND CHAIN

Just a random pic from the category "back to the drawing-board" ;)

A little surprised how simple the mechanism is, prototype works well and should be possible to do in bronze. Parts need to be milled from both sides, maybe some detail turned and then drilled, which just adds quite some more human interaction than 3D printing.

I updated the first post with infos on V2 and moved the interest list to that post.

I can happily say that one future dial maker will adjust to my compass size (which I am convinced is correct) and graffitilogic is also open to use it, should he even make dials in the future. Bruce does his own thing - really, I don't know about his dial or his plans. My compass model will be open source when complete, so it would really be great if there could be some common agreement on that design or changes made to that version.
And I’d like to keep it that way thank you!

So a first test milling mother of pearl (not veneer) was successful. Quite a robust material. Now it’s time to add detail and then get the compass rose darkend.

Also quite happy with aging the sterling silver ring and beads. Now I just need to do it for several hundred (basically having some dozens between two sandpaper sheets, then aging fluid and sandpaper again).

Another work in progress shot, now the new body and mechanism keys in metal (prototype is brass, final will be bronze).

Price: Deluxe version (V2 all bronze): 200,00€ plus shipping

Other versions will got ebay later:
- V1 brass body 100,00€ plus shipping (+20,00€ for resin key)
(this option is still a great display piece on an acrylic riser alone or in addition to a full dial)
- Chain/pin/crown only: 50€ + 15€

More experiments with mother of pearl (rather history accurate) and acrylic MOP (more screen accurate and looks like they might have used it for the original prop) are underway. Anyway, the rose will end up as an inlay, not all done in one piece as initially planned.

So the first batch of chains is ready, now "screen accurate" with 13 oval and 14 "sinker" beads each.

Compass body tooling and brass prototyping will be done over the weekend and then the bronze part production will commence. Still testing different mothers of pearl, but I am confident shipping will start (early) November.

As I have only interest yet in the "Deluxe" version I updated Post #1 and #2

Just a small update on status. Bronze order was placed like 12 days ago and is now with UPS for a week (inside Germany, pretty shameful- Update: Delivered). So production can commence. Also more mother of pearl is on its way.

For everyone in the US who also want to buy a Dial from graffitilogic or the new ahjix one - they will get their own compasses from me anyway, so it might be a chance to save transatlantic compass shipping costs. Not sure how much the compass printing costs them, but maybe they can add another small rebate for omitting that. If interested in a "bundle" just check back with them two nice guys.

Metal processing nearly done. Took a little longer as projected, but no surprise with the work needed for the mechanism and being done by hobbyists.

Mother of pearl next, expecting prototype in the coming two weeks with payment due in the case of success - and shipping shortly after.

Just a "still alive".

Milling, turning and engraving the bodies took a few weekends and the guy who finished it also has some other life with family and full time job. I am still determined to get the final product in your hands before the holidays.

For those with some interest in the work done, here is (a quite technical) video of the last step:
