Indiana Jones Costume - Need Recommendations

I've got the hat, jacket and bag.

I need some recommendations on the pants, shirt and boots.

I'd heard that old Navy had a shirt that was close to the original, or am I better off sewing some thing up?

Same deal with the pants.

Thanks ;)

If you can't afford a Indy Magnoli shirt, get the one from LL Bean. The LL Bean shirt is khaki but it's actually closer to the KOTCS shirt. The Raiders was almost white.

Todds Costumes is making a very affordable shirt:

Most people go with khaki pants from LL Bean. I found a perfect pair of wool pinks at my local Goodwill for $2.00. :D

As for boots, I can't afford the Aldens, so I went with non Steel-Toe Sketchers in the same style and cut as the Aldens. What I like about the Sketchers is they already have the worn brown dusty color to them. They aren't close to being accurate because of the brown cushion piping at the ankle lip, but your pants will hind that:

You could always search for Red Wings on Ebay. The Indy boot is simply a standard work boot, so there are a lot of "close-enoughs" out there to choose from.

I'll second the LLbean pants, but the color you want is Taupe. Not cheap. Be sure to get the pleated.

Bullwhipcracker, thanks for the link to the Rockport shoes. I hadn't seen those. They're definitely close enough for me.

Which would be the more SA color, dark tan (top) or dark chocolate(bottom)?

The general consensus is that the Raiders shoes were darker. Aldens later changed to a lighter leather...lighter in all the other movies.
Most guys either get the dark ones and lighten them with wear and tear...or get the lighter ones and darken them with brown shoepolish...
I went with the dark ones.
Ron
Pop in the Raiders DVD...you get a good look at the shoes as he is making his way to the Idol, and also when he tosses out the germans in the truck chase scene and he rams the car with Belloq. Should help you to chose wisely.

Thanks for the reply, Ron.

I'm not tied to Raiders, though I know that most costumers prefer that look.

Would the tan ones be too light after wear-and-tear to be SA to the later films?

Edit: I'm going to go with the brown ones. They're definitely, like you said, Ron, closer to the early Raiders scenes. And they'll lighten up a bit to fit well with L.C. Great pics here: http://www.indygear.com/igboots.html

Hey Vince,

I assume you talked to John Taylor yesterday about his costume? Everything he has is 100% authentic. It was totally amazing.

Hello Everyone, I recently joined the RPF and over the weekend I dressed in my Indy ROTLA costume for the first time at the Starfest convention here in Denver.

I have a Todd's Costume jacket, weapons belt, bag strap, whip holder and whip. My pants are LL Bean Classic Fit / Pleated Front Chinos and my fedora is an officially licensed one I bought off eBay. I have a big head so I had to buy a XXXL, that's right, a XXXL. I bought my pants web belt at a local army/navy surplus store.

I have two pair of gloves from Todds's, one clean and one distressed.

Todd's is currently out of the Coyle's brand boots and the S&W Holster, so I wore a pair of ankle boots I had and went without a pistol. I had spider webbing, purchased on clearance after Halloween last year, covering my fedora and three rubber tarantulas (also purchased on clearance after last Halloween) on my back. They were held in place with some circle magnets I bought at Lowe's and while they held the tarantulas in place, they fell off from time to time when people would brush up against me or ask if they were real, as they pulled them off my jacket. Once I distress my jacket to look more screen accurate, I'll affix the tarantulas with pin backs so they can't come off. One fellow convention goer thought it was cool that I dressed as Indy from a specific scene.

When I saw there was another Indy at the convention I thought it would be cool to go as Belloq next year.

I'll be checking out the Sketchers store near my place for boots.
