Indiana Jones boot question

I recently picked up a pair of Coyle's Indy boots from a member here (http://www.therpf.com/f13/my-indiana-jones-gear-181500/).

They're more of a reddish-brown color and I'd like to darken them up a bit, but I'm wondering if there's a consensus on the mock toe stitching. Should I try and leave it white or dye it along with the rest of the boot? From the pics I've seen here, it seems that most people leave the stitching white; however, it looks as if it's dark in the film, although that could be a product of the weathering/dirt.

Thoughts?

personally, I'd throw a crapload of dirt all over them, rub it in, shake 'em off... done and done.

Definitively darken the stitching too. If you're planning to weather the boots as well, white stictching would definitively look out of place.

Cool. Well, I am wearing them on a daily basis, but I work in an office so there's only so much weathering that can naturally occur. ;)

I will most likely use some Fuller's Earth to simulate more substantial weathering.

While we're at it, what are the correct laces? Round, waxed or flat, non-waxed? Black or dark brown?

Although I have never done this, someone at the Indy Lounge or COW (can't remember now) suggested calling Alden and asking for a pair of replacement laces for your Alden 405's.

The Alden laces are what were used in the movies. Flat. If you dye the boots darker, the stitching will get really dark, but the color wears back out over time.

Hmmm...I had though Alden boots themselves were what was used in the original film. Have to rebook this up.

I have a pair of Alden Boots and love em...
