Inception PASIV Dream Share Device WIP

Since the COVID-19 "safer at home" order began, I knew that I had to keep myself busy with various projects so that I didn't go stir crazy while confined to my own house for an extended period of time. While I occupied the first few weeks with completing some projects that had long been sitting in development, at about the 1 month mark, I decided it might be fun to use this extra time to work on something I always dreamed of, but never fully thought I'd be able to pull off, mostly due to time. Well, time is pretty much all I've got these days, so I decided to tackle a prop from one of my favorite movies from one of my favorite directors: Christopher Nolan's Inception.

The thing that finally made me take a leap was finding and purchasing the Zero Halliburton case from the movie since it is easily the hardest piece to procure and the most expensive part of the entire prop. Once I found the right one on eBay, the floodgates opened and I began to snag up every store-bought piece needed, and while I waited for those to arrive, I worked on the 3D models in Fusion 360. As of now, I've been working on this thing for about a month, and I finally feel ready to share a progress update with all of you given the fact that it's starting to come together and actually resembles the thing seen on screen (if you ask my wife, that's not very hard considering the fact that she described it as "just a case full of a jumbled mess" when I showed her the pictures of the screen used prop).

The final pieces I'm waiting on before beginning the final assembly of pieces is the metal base inserts for the top and bottom segments of the case. I'm looking into getting these professionally cut by a local metal-smithing shop, but may end up cutting them myself.

There are certainly more to come. Even though it feels like I'm getting close to the finish line, it could very well be a project that goes on many more weeks, and one that I'm sure I'll continue to improve little by little for years to come.

Looking great! Make sure you keep testing that the case actually closes with all the stuff installed.

That is going to be the most nerve-wracking part of the whole thing. The good news is, it’s not horribly difficult to adjust the size/dimensions of the models once they’re made, but I’m really praying it all fits.

Got some new updates in as of today— had the metal base plates cut. These shots show everything set in place again. I’m almost ready to start securing some pieces now.

So I’ve been moving on to some of the more “finishing touches” for the PASIV this past week. The biggest thing the past few days has been doing more of the detail work on the spools. I reworked the end plate and modeled the little IV guide. Also got all the spools wrapped in the silicone tubing. Very happy with the look.

It’s been a while since I gave an update, but this beast of a replica is just about done. While there are still many things I need to do to get it truly finished, I presently consider it to be ready for display while I slowly make those tweaks and additions here and there:

That looks awesome! Did you end up using the same [electrical] connectors I did for the IV adapters?

Pretty much— I think these ones might be a bit on the small side though. Thanks again for all of the help and camaraderie during this build. Definitely helped to have someone who had gone through the same challenge.

Hey, I love that movie as well. The only thing I had made from that movie was his beretta px4 storm. I thought his pistol was really slick looking and really wanted one so I found out what it was and unfortunately they don't make a threaded barrel for that pistol because it has a rotating barrel. The suppressor can come loose or over tighten from use. I was pretty determined so I bought the pistol and did all the paperwork, waited 9 months and got the suppressor. I ran into a beretta rep who said he could get me an extended barrel, so I bought it and that took 9 months to get. Then I sent the barrel off to get threaded. Took a while but here it is. That's how the suppressor looks. Well close enough. The reality is is it won't cycle with that barrel adapter. Nor can you charge the slide because it hits the front of the fram as soon as you pull back on it. Hollywood getting firearms wrong as usual. It works with the right adapter, but after your 9th or 10th shot it's about a full turn loose on the suppressor.

Very nice! I’m a gun collector as well, so I love when my two hobbies cross over.

They're both dangerous hobbies. You could go destitute if you don't have limits on them. Movies have sold so many guns. I always thought the mp5sd3 was such a beautiful looking gun. Took forever but I got one. Its a salvaged hk build and once again have to wait forever to get the can on this thing. But worth the wait. I also always loved the mk2 rugars from assassins. I have one but the suppressor is longer and not the same. Ill get to that one day. Hopefully while you can still purchase them.

I'm currently working on 2 EC-17 blasters and having paint issues. Very frustrating 20201008_165427.jpg
