imperial guard... my first pep

this is my first effort at pepakura, having played with vacforming in the past i wanted to try the way most cosplayers are using

thoroughly enjoying myself and have a second helmet in production but wanted to put this up!

i am up to resin on the outer edge, and fibreglass will be tomorrow - question if anyone reads this... do you resin the inside or not?

i am not attempting to be screen accurate, just an enjoyable project!

I used resin inside with fibreglass laid into it for strength. I can only afford polyester, and I know epoxy is easier and smells less, but...

One thing with polyester - it does not adhere particularly well to itself if the layer underneath has fully cured. It is best to add extra layers while the layer underneath is cured enough to be stiff, but is still 'green' and sticky.

Nicely assembled pep, by the way. :thumbsup

ive left mine to cure overnight, are you saying to move straight to fibreglass and resin inside now?

thanks, thats nice to hear!

Very nice!

No, it should be fine. I used to think that polyester would bond to itself. It will to a certain extent, but not if the poly has completely cured. It'll stick, but if you stress the area it will de-laminate. What I usually do is resin it all over the course of a day. In summer I leave it in the sun to set, then apply extra coats. In winter I use a curing cabinet which is an old fridge with an 80 watt bulb inside. I have even used the car - my work wagon - as a curing cabinet on a hot day. Worked brilliantly, but stunk a bit for a day or two...

I Resin inside and out and put fibreglass on the inside that way you keel the "details " on the outside

Very nice looking helmet, which pep file did you use? Yours looks like it is much smoother than the ones I had looked at.

its now had 2 days of curing due to family commitments yesterday. my plan is to move straight the fibreglass layers on the inside now due to the outer layer of resin being completely set now. if i had had a chance, i would have resined inside and out but thats something ive now learned for my next build!
