where did you get these pics ?

Real ones in California as of December 2011

Cathedral City Desert IMAX Theater
Irvine Edwards Irvine Spectrum 21 & IMAX
Los Angeles California Science Center
Los Angeles Rave 18 IMAX
Ontario Edwards Ontario Palace 22 & IMAX
Sacramento Esquire IMAX Theatre
San Diego Reuben H. Fleet Science Center
San Francisco AMC Loews Metreon
San Jose Tech Museum of Innovation
Universal City AMC Loews Universal City

hmm, I see Loews and a science center listed how can that be real IMAX? Sounds like planetarium and the faux theater IMAX.

I'm in LA, i want to see the legit IMAX

there used to be a google maps where they had all the real and fake IMAX's listed

I just saw your post above mine, did you go to the Aviation planetatium?
In Nasau county? What a jip right??

Wheres the good IMAX you went to on long island?
Or are you talking about the IMAX near you now in Colorodo?
I left long island behind i grew up in suffolk county, what hell hole.

I went to the stony brook loews one and was underwhelmed bigtime.

Yup, the Cradle of Aviation museum (I think that was the official name). It wasn't an awful experience, but it left a lot to be desired. The screen's closeness was a bigger issue than any other complaint.

The IMAX I mentioned liking is the one here in Colorado Springs. IMAX is a legitimately awesome experience when done well, and Nolan does it well. It was much more enjoyable to see TDKR in a proper IMAX theater, as opposed to the Aviation museum.

But the Westbury 12 added an IMAX screen at some point in the past few years. That was the theater I usually used when on LI, although pre-having IMAX.

I went back to LI this week, actually, after not being there for over two years. It just gets worse. Overpriced is one thing, but overpaying for an area that is rapidly devolving? No thanks. It's a shame to leave friends behind, but you've got to move forward.

It really depends on the theater you see it in. I've seen plenty of IMAX theaters and I find AMC to host the worst. It really just seems like they turn up the volume as loud as they can. I'm find with volume, but I shouldn't be hearing the speakers rattling when people are speaking. When I went to complain, they just said that it was the way the IMAX theater was made. And the movie was for Scream, so maybe they did turn it up a bit just to get more of a jump scare from the audience.

I like that when I pay extra to see something in IMAX, I don't have to worry about hearing the chatter of those around me.

It's weird because, where I live, Imax costs the same as Regal. Regal is TERRIBLE.

I also had no problem at my Imax theatre. I travelled an hour away for the full five story screen and it was excellent.

The cradle of aviation thats the one, i felt claustrophobic with the screen on top of me! Thats not meant to show a film thats for stars and planetarium stuff to show to feel encased in.
I was soo pist by that. I knew it wasnt the right screen. I wonder how Christopher Nolan would react knowing they show his movies in a "LIE-MAX"

I think ive been to that theater the westbury one and saw Avatar there. Not sure if its the right theater but the sound was soo bad sounded like no bass all treble.
There was one huge theater in Nassau that used to have an I-Hop near it.
I saw the first pirates of the carribean there, i was soo baffled at how huge the theater and screen was! I never found that theater again. It was Awesome seeing it there.

I know just what you mean / :
I lived in suffolk county, lake grove, selden, saint james, stony brook. Then to Nassau, wantagh back to sulfolk stony brook, lake grove, holbrook. Then to Nassau again Long Beach.

I liked Nassau better but long island is an awful place.

I just never fit in there at all.
Im happy to be away from it and the way people think and act there.

How are you liking Colorodo? Ive never been there.

Im in los angeles now, the economy here is awful.
I like how people are very laid back and arent so close minded.
But i still dont feel its a place for me.
Everyones here for shallow reasons.

Where did you grow up in long island?

I was hoping for a mind-blowing experience when I went to see TDKR in IMAX - my first feature film in IMAX.

What I got was a picture that was fuzzy and too dark (as though the bulb brightness was off), and sound that was cranked loud enough to distort the speakers. Making out the dialog of even the "normal" characters was a challenge. Forget understanding Bane.

I saw it this past Sunday in a standard theater and the experience was much improved. Bright, clear picture, and a loud, but perfectly understandable sound mix.

Unfortunately, "near an IHOP" doesn't narrow it down much on LI. :lol

You hopped around more than me. With my family, I lived in Merrick and Baldwin, then moved to Carle Place with my wife. It's a shame, because I loved growing up on LI, but the quality just went downhill while the prices went up. But what I remember as "Long Island", in the good way, isn't something that will happen again. You'll never see anything like Nunley's ever again (and the refurbished carousel doesn't count).

I've been liking Colorado. I'm in Colorado Springs, which is almost like a newer Long Island. It's got stores when you want stores, it's got nature when you want nature. Everything feels close without feeling close.

Yeah, LI to LA is a rough move, CA is probably the one state worse off than NY, financially. But even if you're not there permanently, it's still an experience just to live in another place.

YESSS Nunleys I remember that when I was a kid!
My sister showed me the Ferris wheel that was left as a monument by Billy Joel in Nassau, and i think around when the Dark Knight came out we went to the merry go round at the childrens science center, was great to ride it again, this time with my niece ( :

What year did you graduate? I was in Sachem then, Wardmelvile in east setauket.

to save yourself time, money and hassle.

any cinema or theatre claiming to have "real IMAX" when in actual fact its not even a full size IMAX screen, and is digitally projected, then walk away immediately.

you have 2 options of watching this movie. On regular cinema/multiplex, or a proper FILM IMAX theatre where they use the actual 70mm film reel, not a crappy digital harddrive.

These crappy Liemax theatres are just a waste of time. if you are going to see IMAX, go see it in the proper format, not a crappy digital fake one.

It has be said though that since are trying to go digital, eventually they plan to replace all the film projectors with digital harddrives, buts is a knonw fact that none of the digital projectors will be able to match the 70mm film reel.

Its practically impossible. Unless IMAX has a massive 10k plus quality digital projection, then all you will see is the pixels.

I'm all for digital, but if you can't get even get a good quality image like standard 35mm or 70mm film from standard digital recordings, then whats the point of digital?

The Rave Cinema in LA IMAX was fuzzy more often than not. There were also entertaining little squiggly lines that would pop up for seconds at a time. The best one landed on Morgan Freemans face so it looked as if his blotches were trying to escape. Half the theater was laughing so hard the other half was getting upset trying to figure out what everyone was laughing about.
