Hey

With Christmas over the inevitable rush to the stores has started with sales galore going on here in the UK, i headed to HMV and checked out the reduced prices on Blu Ray movies and picked up a couple of movies at good prices.

Ive never been a massive fan of the original Star Trek series, il watch re-runs on the odd occasion and sometimes watch the odd Generations episode but thats it as far as my StarTrek interest goes and as for the Past Movies ive never been interested so the thought of buying and watching the latest installment The origin Movie !!!! ive kind of always passed it by.

So back to the sales .......... i came across the latest ST Moive on Blu Ray disc via a Buy one get one free offer, so with my copy of Inception (which by the way i found dissapointing) i decided on getting Star Trek as my free option.

This has probably been discussed to death here but as mentioned not being a ST fan ive passed up on the reviews and literally saw this movie for the first time tonight

I totally loved the movie, it had me gripped from Start to Finish, the action sequences were fantastic, the plot was plausiable and believable so too the acting and the character introductions.

Every now again a movie comes along that grips me and i dont want it to end and this was one of those movies, im not about to turn into a massive Star Trek fan but i am very much looking forward to a sequel and i hope and pray it will be as good as this movie.

IMHO a sci-fi movie of the highest standard ............

Live Long and Prosper :thumbsup

Re: Im not a Trekie ........ However

You didn't like Inception? :)

To be honest ..... no

however i think it has to be watched a number of times to perhaps get into it and fully appreciate it, i wont give up on it and will maybe change my mind given time :thumbsup

This pretty much sums up what my wife thought of this film.

She dislikes (I won't go as far as saying "hates") Star Trek. However she liked the Abrams *ahem* film.

When I asked her afterward if this makes her a Star Trek fan, her answer was (and I quote), "Hell no!"

This film was Star Trek in name only. It was just an action movie set in space, nothing more.

This is why you liked it. You didn't actually watch a "Star Trek" movie.

But... to each his own. Glad you liked it. :thumbsup

It's as much Star Trek as anything.

And it great. Especially in IMAX.

Agreed. Ain't Star Trek anymore then Iguanazilla was Godzilla.

If this is all someone likes of Trek, they are still missing the whole freekin point of what Roddenberry was going for.

Re: Im not a Trekie ........ However

Screw it. The movie sucks, the characters are a&%holes, the villain is insanely dumb, and dumbed the lore down to an abysmal level. Even Nicholas Meyer, a very down to earth author and film director still used Stardates.

I loved it. :)

Don't get me wrong, though.. it doesn't change my appreciation of the originals. I have entire DVD rack full of the rest of Trek. All of it.

Except ST5.. I view the collection as complete without that one.

Re: Im not a Trekie ........ However

i dislike all things trek, but the latest movie was watchable.

just.

Re: Im not a Trekie ........ However

:rolleyes yay... another non-fan loved Abrams' vapid abomination. I can die happy now.

Re: Im not a Trekie ........ However

Saw it just the once, which was more than enough.

I'm tired of J.J.'s alternative timelines.
