IM Mk3 Plastic Coated Foam (WIP) update pg 10

Re: IM Mk3 Plastic Coated Foam (WIP) (Pic Heavy) update 19.3

Omg bro this is looking sic man!!! I am blown away at how much like pep this is looking. It's making me think that if I can afford it I might have to give this method a go because no matter how good I make my foam look it just isn't as crisp looking as this.

Cheers mate, well chuffed with the finish :thumbsup
hurry up! cant wait to see the final version :D
I'm going as fast as I can:) ( which admittedly is snail pace )

Just beautiful work there, that plastic coating seems to have come out really nicely
Thanks man

Dear god... it's beautiful!!
LOL :D

Wow! This looks really amazing! I can't get over how clean it looks.
Cheers mate

Got one of the shoulders in primer & will post pics tomorrow meanwhile here's another of the arm:cool

Re: IM Mk3 Plastic Coated Foam (WIP) (Pic Heavy) update 19.3

This is looking fantastic! I'm trying to work on some Erebor Dwarf armour and I'd love to give the final pieces a similar treatment to this, I just don't know if it is the best for that kind of thing? Looks like this works perfectly for Ironman's smooth curves and large surface areas, but what what something like norse style details on a border? I can't imagine those bits being very sandable, and the resin would probably fill up all the corners :/

Re: IM Mk3 Plastic Coated Foam (WIP) (Pic Heavy) update 19.3

Sorry if this was answered... are you coating the inside with pva and resin also? Plus. This may sound dumb. What do you mean when you say flat? Im almost finished pepping my mk vi but after seing how good that foam looks im considering changing just for the shape making all the reshape work less difficult. Do you bondo the whole thing or just imperfections?

Many Thanks, agree it may not be as suited but I would give it a try.

So far I've only coated the outside but I'm planning on coating the largest parts inside too. Flat = wet sand with fine grade w&d paper. And only tiny amounts of filler for imperfections. HTH

This is really really good.
Cheers James, really glad I went this route.

could you tell us witch pep files you used
Thought I'd posted this but it seems I didnt:facepalm
So many, many thanks to JF Custom & Dancin_Fool for the excellent pep files!

Re: Another Iron Man Mk3 first build (WIP)

Looks a lot nearer finished than it actually is, most of the individual parts are unfinished and temporarily connected with tape or cocktail sticks. Also the thigh needs redoing as I'm not satisfied with how it came out along with the helmet needing scaling up slightly:facepalm

Sorry to jump in... Perhaps you would be better looking in a thread where the pep files are posted? Only saying this because I've seen the advise in those places where the designer explains and may save you some time then waiting for a reply. I can't link you atm, but there are plenty around. Just search iron man pep files and skim the containing posts as different pep files have different scales. (Trust me I know after building and cutting loads of parts that were way too small).

Re: IM Mk3 Plastic Coated Foam (WIP) (Pic Heavy) update 19.3

You are my inspiration! :-D Seriously, though, I'm just coming to the close (I hope) of coating my mk 4 with smooth-on, and I'm finding it difficult to keep the plastic smooth and pretty. Any tips on eliminating bubbles and bumps before I spend a year sanding and filling?

Re: IM Mk3 Plastic Coated Foam (WIP) (Pic Heavy) update 19.3

This is looking great! You've helped me make my mind up I'm definately going down this route now.

Re: IM Mk3 Plastic Coated Foam (WIP) (Pic Heavy) update 19.3

I am with you on that one Greedo. I have done my foam bit and my filler bit now its time to combine them both and try to achieve what Shelfside has. The only thing is what to make :confused

Re: IM Mk3 Plastic Coated Foam (WIP) (Pic Heavy) update 19.3

This is beautiful work! Keep it up; definitely an inspiration! :)

Re: IM Mk3 Plastic Coated Foam (WIP) (Pic Heavy) update 19.3
