IM Mk3 Plastic Coated Foam (WIP) update pg 10

Re: Iron Man Mk3 Coated Foam (WIP) (Pic Heavy)

Absolutely beautiful. Is the 120 stiff or semi-flexible? Did you freehand or use templates?

Re: Iron Man Mk3 Coated Foam (WIP) (Pic Heavy)

What resin did you used to apply to the foam?
Poly Flo 120

Looks excellent all together, really glad to see you make the resin coating work well. Looking forward to seeing some of the larger pieces coated.
Cheers James, couldn't have done it without your tutorials mate:thumbsup

me too....i am building a MK IV (foam) at the moment and i plan to to seal it with your method...but my concern is that once the plastic has dried the parts won't fit together anymore...
by the way...yout build is totaly awesome!
cheers, Gonzo
Danke, Don't think there will be any issues with parts fitting tbh, good luck with the MKIV

Amazing. Can't wait to see it finished.
Thanks:thumbsup

wow :love another awesome build :)
Cheers:thumbsup

Cheers mate. The 120 still remains pretty flexible but obviously that would decrease with more coats, I'd say 90% of it is pepped:thumbsup

Re: Iron Man Mk3 Coated Foam (WIP) (Pic Heavy)

awesome work!!! really impressive!! it's so much clean I could cry :) what kind of resin are you using? is it difficult to work with?

Oops missed you out:facepalm Not difficult to use at all just have to be quick:thumbsup Thamks

Happy bday man...looking forward to the paint job. If you are able to get a good finish, im definitely going the foam route.

Thanks man

Well made a little progress this weekend. My original plan was to hold fire on getting the colour ordered and to get everything coated and prepped first....

Caved in an ordered 'Toyota Mica/Merlot' red & 'Ford Solar Gold' on Thursday:lol Got a couple of bits painted & cleared on Saturday but wasn't happy with the 'orange peel' so spent Sunday flatting.

Really happy with the finish ( though thought the AX5 was a bit dark at first) but struggling to get the quality to show in pics.

********, love that piant job :love Looks so good, and so incredibly RIGHT! You're gonna have one hell of a results with this.

Re: Iron Man Mk3 Coated Foam (WIP) (Pic Heavy)

Really nice work on the suit. Looks like a nice process for creating the suit. The paint looks great too.

Re: Iron Man Mk3 Coated Foam (WIP) (Pic Heavy)

I am really liking this build. It's almost making me want to do a suit with plastic covered foam but I just love sanding filler too much :p

Re: Iron Man Mk3 Coated Foam (WIP) (Pic Heavy)

Wowsers, this is looking fantastic! I'm going to start building my own Iron Man in the next month or so. This thread is getting bookmarked and will be a big help. Keep up the great work!

Re: Iron Man Mk3 Coated Foam (WIP) (Pic Heavy)

Wow Amazing job!!! are you freehanding the parts or using somebody's files?

Re: Iron Man Mk3 Coated Foam (WIP) (Pic Heavy)

This work is coming along great! I am currently building my first foam iron man suit and I am a little unsure as to how I cut the brace (the piece under the chest piece).... do you have a picture of your brace alone? I am struggling to find a good foam picture of one.

Re: Iron Man Mk3 Coated Foam (WIP) (Pic Heavy)

wow this looks amazing! i was thinking of using foam as a base for helmets and then plastic coating them to get them peerfect! the only thing i thought might be a problem is the excess glue in seams, does it get in the way when you try to sand down the plastic?

I know this is one for Shelfside but I have a video at the start of my thread explaining how to remove the excess glue if that helps. It's one of the techniques videos, I forget which one.

Loving this build man its making me which I had taken the same route. Maybe one day I will plastic coat my suit but have other projects that must be finished first.

Re: Iron Man Mk3 Coated Foam (WIP) (Pic Heavy)

Looks excellent with the paint - you'd never know that was foam originally. Can't wait for the bigger pieces.
