I'm a prop sword/historical swordmaker's apprentice!

My friend (mentioned and quoted in the Barbossa sword thread) who has worked time and again for Tony Swatton, has made me his latest(maybe last) apprentice! He worked on the principal's blades for Pirates of the Carribean, Last Samurai(except for Cruise's forged sword), Master Commander, Hidalgo, Conan the Barbarian(worked on the Father's sword). Might get a gig one day in the movies myself, who knows? Just the stories I've heard from the sets are worth the price of admission :lol
I'm very buzzed, and the first project I plan to work on is the Disney Three Musketeers Corps rapier.

Even more a dream come true is that I will learn the art of Nihon-to; Japanese steel.
:confused
Lil blown away here. This happens once in a lifetime to someone who knows someone YOU know if you're lucky. I will spend years learning and refining what I'm taught
I am very honored to have this opportunity and can't wait to start working the forge. And to start doing props never duplicated before, that won't suck :love

Cool JJ, you're very lucky to have the opportunity to learn this technique... a dream for a lot of swordmaker I guess !!!

But certainly difficult technique and you will have to work hard, correct ?

Good luck,
FRED

Congrats!! I've known Tony for years... his work is the Best and he's a really great guy! :thumbsup

Congrats man!(y)cool You are one lucky guy! I'd do anything to be a swordmaker and to learn from some of the best. From your talks with me, I can tell you got great potential! Good luck!

Wow, mega-congratulations, that's always been a dream of mine. I've got books upon books, but without someone who actually knows what they're doing to teach me I know I'll always be way held back. Enjoy it as best you can for all the rest of us.

Thanks to you all, and thanks for the kind PMs.

I'm not working with Tony Swatton, but his go-to guy for sword props. Tony designs swords and does stonework, but when it comes a large number of weapons being made he assembles a crew including my instructor. For example, while Tony was the sword prop man credited on POTC, Mischka created the Jack Sparrow sword out of thin air and his own imagination.

Don't worry guys, I will enjoy the honor and bust my hump to learn all I can. :thumbsup

Congrats man!!!!! I'll be very anxious to here some of those stories get passed along here:lol

Thats fantastic!

If you do, all of us will look forward to some of your runs!

Aye Jax do tell, hows things going for you. Truely a job to be proud of :D

I'd like to have good news, but don't. I suppose I should have linked the threads but didn't. My Master in arts passed on in an accident about two years ago. So I have a few skills to develop on my own and see what I can create.
