I want an M1 Garand Rifle at the cheapest possible cost.

So there ya have it. What would be the easiest and cheapest way to acquire a replica? I like Marushin's stuff, but no way in hades am I spending 500 bucks on a rifle that freaking shoots BBs. I really don't care what sort of replica it is, so long as it looks like an M1. I'm actually thinking the cheapest way thus far might be to buy everything but the receiver and barrel off eBay and just buy junk parts.

Anyone? WWII dudes?

Do you really want airsoft or a replica?

There are a couple places locally that sell the real deal for under $200. Cheaper than Dirt and Military Surplus both have it. They both sell online.

I'll take the real deal. I have no intention of firing it. One that could fire would be pretty sweet, as I do some marksmanship and target shooting, but I've never handled anything that powerful. Where do you suggest finding these – gun shows you said?

For the lowest price of actual M1 not replica or airsoft check the civilian marksmanship program CMP.

+1 on the CMP

They just got in another big shipment of Garands too.

The CMP has the power of Congress behind it and they can ship a fully operational Garand to your doorstep. No dealer required as long as you meet all the requirements.

If you just want a non-firing display piece you can get one of their drill rifles that has the barrel plugged/welded for $345

I hate to take this off topic but what exactly is the CMP?
I've been looking into getting a few Springfield and Garand rifles and it always comes back to looking into the CMP.

If I remember correctly, in order to qualify to purchase a rifle through the CMP, you have to attend around 3 of their sanctioned/sponsored target shooting events. (these are held all across the country) At that point, you're eligible to choose from several grades of M1 rifles at reduced prices compared to current market values.

If I had the cash and a bit more motivation, I'd get my rear in gear and sign up for the program.

There are other ways to qualify. If you served in the military or hold a collectors FFL(amongst others options) those type of things will help qualify you. There are also some clubs that you can join to help you qualify($25 lifetime membership to the Garand Collectors club, etc.) Read their requirements carefully, you may already qualify.

Great to hear there are other options available. Thanks for the additional info. :thumbsup

My brother got a Garand through the CMP earlier this year. All he had to do was fill out the paperwork, join an approved shooting club (the CMP has a list by state of approved clubs) and my brother-in-law (a deputy sheriff) filled out his paperwork witnessing his shooting activity (can also be filled out by a range officer at your shooting range) which is also available on the website. Waited about 4 weeks and it was shipped to him and it was a fairly nice rifle.
