i,Robot holster - prop related

I'm working on making a form-fitted holster for a movie weapon and trying to decide (other than how to do it) whether to replicate the original makers "brand" on the leather or to make a similar one but with my info instead.

I've never worked with leather before and wet forming seems pretty easy but I'm still working out how to get the same degree of detail and fit that the original maker did. I'll post pictures as soon as I get the first test piece done... hopefully this weekend.

Originality- even if it's to reproduce somethign that's already existing shows a creative side that can sell itself! It's that whole "copying" thing that you'd want to watch out for- obviously!

If there's an original that you really admire, but in turn you have something substantial to make it either stand out or improve ont he design it would behoove you to make every attempt to create your version- improvements can lead to sales- especially if the subject matter winds up garnering notoriety! :love

I remember a guy I knew once had a holster custom made to fit a Coyle ST3 phaser, and it looked REALLY good! He took it to a real holster maker, and had it custom fitted. The whole thing was well thought out with the cut-out area allowing good access to the grip, and the retainer strap had a hidden magnetic snap to keep it in place. Non-canon as hell, but really slick just the same! :thumbsup

I've not done anything with leather crafts since I was in Boy Scouts
but wanted to see how hard it would be to possibly make a holster for my i,Robot pistol. I purchased some vegetable tanned leather and gave it a try. I want to ultimately try to make the holster that Will Smith's character used but the more common belt holster seemed an easier first try.

Here's what I was looking to replicate.

Right off the bat it's clear that the leather that I purchased is too light weight and I got more of the details of the pistol than I should have. The maker stamp that I asked about in the first couple posts is too large for the area on my mockup, heavier leather will make that area wider. It appears that the opening for the barrel must cut at an angle, I cut mine straight and it looks off.

This is just mock up so the pieces where the belt hole will go are too small, I just wanted to see if I could get the approximate shape. Unfortunately the leather shop is all the way on the other side of town and I don't plan on making a trip until next week so this is on hold.
