As I'm sure most of you can relate to, I've always been fascinated by the methods of SFX artists and the ingenuity they employ. This especially stems from the days when miniatures and practical effects were at the forefront of movie making.
I haven't been able to enjoy as many films this year due to my blitz to enter some semblance of adulthood (mortgage time!), but last night I watched the extended cut of Watchmen with Zach Snyder's commentary track and really enjoyed his insight on the post work they did for the film. I was especially impressed by the smaller details that I glossed over or assumed were done with much different techniques: Manhattan's 'peach fuzz' and aura of particles, the effect of certain lenses on perspective, the redressing of sets/locations, CG tear on the Comedian to track an exact path...
It really just reminded me of why I love escaping through films and of the great respect and appreciation I have for the artists that have brought so many of my favorite films to life (Blade Runner's city scape!).
And that brings me to the RPF... I remember lurking around this site as early as 2001 and being surprised by how specialized the interests people shared here were, myself included! Once I became a 'working man' with more free time (and expendable cash :love), I joined the ranks here and, to this day, am still impressed by the body of work and talent and sense of community that is The RPF. I haven't really posted much this year (mortgage time!), but felt it was an appropriate time to say:
Happy Holidays! And may the RPF be with you! :thumbsup
