I got some new molds recently...

I recently purchased most of AIM's molds. Two of the boxes are still in transit but otherwise, I will now be able to offer almost everything they did (I didn't buy all of their molds). Here is a list of what I picked up:

BSG Blaster (TOS)
'66 Batarang
Predator helmet (non wearable)
Cyclops visor (X1)
Indy angels, Fertility Idol & Staff of Ra headpiece
Space 1999 stungun & comlock
Loki mask

I also got all of their Trek molds as well.

This is just an FYI. I'm not offering to sell anything in this particular thread but I'll probably post some specific sales in the Junkyard soon.

Cool.
Just out of curiosity, is the BSG Gun a recast of the BSG.Org or a recast of one of Rac's?
I know Peter Told me once he had pulled a mold off of each.
I know the Space 1999 and the Batarang are both pops off of Clint Youngs pieces but the other stuff I'm not sure about, where did they come from?

Preserving our history. Most of my first props came by way of Canada.. Aaah. So how is Peter and his shop of modelling misfits?

See that's why I have a slight problem with this - I have a few items from AIM, very good quality and the commercial work the Alberta Industrial Models do is quite stunning. However someone told me most of the kits they supplied were recasts. A VP70 was a recast of the Steve Dymsmo (sp?) version for example and it soured it a bit for me.

If you make casts from your newly acquired moulds, are you a recaster once-removed?

This is the second time in a week I've felt like the 'Prop Police'. :(

Ah, the prop police are on the case.

:)

I do not have much information on these claims. Some of the molds were taken from screen used pieces, some were not. I have masters for some molds and not for others.

Not to sound like a schmuck but if you'd like to buy something once I begin selling, fine. If not, that's fine too. You can't honestly expect me to debate issues like this. :rolleyes

i have done a good many deals with Peter a few years back and spoke with him o few times. a fine helpful person. hye assisted me in my run in with Greggy poo. :D

let me know on the 1999 stuff. :p

i have one of his Galactica guns and will say the quality is excellent but as to where it is from i will say that it does not have the extra tubes on the left and right side of the main barrel like Richards or ME or any others i have seen. i bought mine over 6 YEARS AGO , long before BSG.ORG. :angel

i added them to mine.

What an extraordinary thing to say.

I liked dealing with Peter, he even included a couple of extras, doesn't change the fact that the stuff I got was apparently recast and not from screen-used pieces.

If it's a mould from screen used, good for you. If its a mould from a known source or known master, good for you. If it's from an unknown source, or a Rob Durham trade, or similar, it's up to you.

You make your own choices.

I believe I'll choose not to buy. :)

Regardless, from a technical POV it must be interesting to see the thought that went into designing multi-part moulds etc.

Also if someone could translate 'schmuck' it would be most appreciated.

...and I believe it's extraordinary to begin a "debate" like this in my thread.

Schmuck is another way to say "jerk" or any other similar word.

Why is it extraordinary to begin a debate like this?
CY is still offering the items and he has stated point blank before that Peter recast his pieces, tells and all. If you have any original masters he provided, cool. If the masters are nothing more than first pulls out of his molds that he saved for masters, that is nothing but a mold master of the recast piece to start with.
At the time Peter offered these items, everyone was aware they were recasts and it went without saying with a wink-wink and a nod-nod.
FWIW, the Indy Ark Angels were direct recasts off of Sarge's pieces and Peter openly bragged about it on the old RPF.
With the new landscape of the RPF, I thought recasts of any items (unless it was directly off of a studio original the you owned or with permission of the owner) was a no-no. I even thought that there were several recent bannings over just such a thing.

However, if you have found a new loophole by simply stating you don't know or don't have the time to debate sush an issue, hat's off to you. I'm sure we will see a whole lot of "look at these new molds I just bought" threads in the near future.

If you

I do know after Peter found out his BSG blaster was Coyle's he started building his own master to replace it. He asked me what I knew about donor kit parts.

The Space 1999 props were scratch built by myself.

To my knowledge, I've never dealt with Clint Young, so I doubt the the VP-70 was a recast of his. It looks to be a pull off an MGC blowback VP-70M...

As for the other stuff, I can't really remember where I got most of it... What I do remember is that they were all in such piss-poor shape when I got them, that I spend hours, days and sometimes even weeks cleaning them up, rebuilding them, etc. before molding them... If that makes me a recaster - so be it. I made a TON of collectors very happy over the years and made lots of beer money doing it :D

Part of the reason I got out was because of too many people passing judgement on me. Everyone wanted the props, few asked any questions, and many were quick to jump on the bandwagon when it came politically correct to burn the recasters.

Hobbies are supposed to be fun - Enjoy.

bluefive - hope you have a blast with these molds. Reaper, Jay - still miss all you guys. We sure had a blast in the good 'ol days.

Jay - the shop is no more. I closed it down a couple of years ago and decided to go work for someone else (engineering & sales in oil & gas). My wife sold her business, too. We found we were working way too many hours and not spending enough time having fun. I still do a little consulting on the side, just enough to pay for the beer habit :thumbsup

My hobbies are playing the bass and Halo2 on XBLive.

Im sorry to hear that Peter has moved his moulds on. He's a great guy, and one of the very first people I met on the RPF, (and thats becoming a long time ago now.)

Can understand why he has made the decision he has, but now I hope to blast time in Halo2 when I get the chance. :)

Im interested in some stuff too Blue5. PM will be in the mail.

Most of my early collection was AIM stuff. Great kits, great quality. Glad to see the molds went to a good home. :) Whatcha been up to Pete?

Good thing I read the whole thread- I was just beginning to experience a sliver of fun having to do with props again, then it got sucked right back out. Glad to see the Prop Police are still around. :rolleyes

PETE.

What's up...you need to call sometime, ya know.

Always nice to see your mug pop up.

Well sorry Peter, but that is recasting. Just because you are a very nice, friendly, helpful, popular guy doesn't make it any better. Maybe it was OK back in the olden days before self-appointed semi-Bureaucratic over officious witnits like me decided to harras honest artisans in the pursuit of beer money, but it's 2006 and people talk and compare notes and reach conclusions and we have a 26 page thread accusing one company of recasting a simple stand for goodness sake.

Glad to hear you have moved on, best of luck.

To allllllll the other recasters out there be aware that 'Generalisimo Captain El Propo Policia' is watching you while standing in a cape in the rain on a tall building at night in glamerous Generic City.

(I'm completely powerless to do anything by the way, I'll just be watching and making the occasional post on a message board)

In fact I've just decided to resign my commission, someone else can 'Take up the cape'.
