And by a broom I mean a Nimbus 2000, and by got I mean made. Here is the break down, got the idea to make it for her last Saturday night, did some quick and dirty research, and Sunday I cut the handle shape out of scrap 2x6
then on Monday I shaped the handle, and heat bent a piece of plastic pipe for part of the foot rest
Tuesday I stained it, painted on a passable Nimbus 2000 logo, and clear coated it.
I also cut and shaped a core for the bristles out of scrap foam insulation. Including a hole for the handle to go into then painted it brown just in case the bristles got pushed aside somehow, it wouldn't be as noticeable.
Also on Tuesday I attached two peices of doweling to the bent pipe and painted it copper for the foot rest and added twine wrap.
On Wednesday I put all the bristles on the core, they are made of yarn after cutting a bunch one by one I made a crude jig to get a bunch of yarn the same length.
Layer #1 applied
Layer #2 applied
Layer #3 applied
I also added a bunch of little pieces of yarn around the handle hole to help hid it
I then used some spray adhesive to help hold all the yarn together and to the core, then I trimmed and shaped the end.
I hit it with a pit of spray paint to take away the white the spray adhesive left behind, and to help take away the "yarn look", then attached it to the handle.
Then it was time to attached the foot rest and add the bindings to the bristles. I used a combination of hot glue and Shoe Goo, for, strength and fast holding. And then it was finished. For size reference it is just under 60 inches long.
So there you have it. I took 3 days of work on and off, and I know its not screen accurate but the total cost of the build was $0.00, so I can't complain to much. And, the most important part of all, she loved it
