Translation:
( Calen Hoffman's amazing Groot cosplay has inspired me to do one as well. I am shooting for a Halloween completion, but it may be tight since im working on a Gundam Project for May alongside and school starts soon. Only got the head mostly done so far. Used an EVA foam sheet, and went nuts with a dremel. It is very freeing to do a character that is not symmetrical and random with his texture so I don't have to "care" about exact detail)

I am Groot ( So with school and procrastination, I've been going at this with a snails pace)
I am Groot ( The white board shows a rough idea of what I might do for the feet, unless someone has a better cheaper idea.)
I am Groot ( So turns out the arm I was working on became too stiff when I was hot gluing every pipe to each other so I had to change tactics so now I Use Super 77 to glue each individual pipe to a shirt and am trying to part it out like an armor build, So far its produced better flexibility.)

i recently constructed a groot costume of my own that I used for C4 comic con, I used seed sample pails for the feet-plastic pails that were very durable but not 5 gallon pails. I attached a plywood cutout of my foot on top and screwed it in along with my shoe to each one, then also attached a strap for extra durability. then filled the pail with expanding foam and then attached eva foam to the bottom for grip. hope that helps. I may have a picture i'll look. but cheaper alternative to using 2x4's and very light. I was able to use the escalators and stairs with them. very comfy!
good luck

I am Groot (thanks for the idea, ill look into the pails and use the excess foam stacks for cushions. )

Update:
I am Groot..( Put a base brown on the head. going to have to play around with shading and then add the green fuzz)

It's looking great. Can't wait to see how you detail it. I found black washing and dry brushing work really well, but you've got to get the colours right. I'm just starting to work on V2 of my Groot mask as I wasn't happy with the first one I rushed. Can't wait to see how it looks with the detail. :)

I am Groot ( I have 2 weeks to finish this costume so I've started rushing what I can. Got the front and back built. Insulation pipes and i just dremel in the lines for texture and Super 77 spray glue them onto a shirt.)

How did you get that texture on the foam pipes? Dremel?

Also what are you using to paint the mask?
Dremel for the texture and cheap wal-mart acrylics for the paint. I just mix around the shades and black wash to bring out the details

Your Groot face looks a little like Sir Ian McKellen. It is absolutely amazing, but I thought you should know that.

Do you think it'll get hot with all that insulation?:b

Anyways great job all around! Just checked out your lego batman build as well very cool!
