I am curious if members make costumes for other members?

Well I am new to the forum here, and I have to say I love it already. I am 24 years old and I love movies, especially the costumes and suits that are in them. I have always wished as a kid I could become one of the people in the movies. I unfortunately am not very handy with building stuff. I have been searching for a very long time, and saving money to try to find someone to build me a war machine suit. I would pay you or donate my money to a charity or whatever you want me to do. I will make an embarrassing video and you can post it all over the internet. Honestly I would do ANYTHING for someone to make me a war machine suit!! I would also love any advice or tips. Thank you all so much!

look for tmp but he can be very discerning on who he comissions to. You might consider looking thru the junkyard for run offs or used items from other members.

tetsuyacasshern I will send him a message and see what he says. I have been searching for over a year and a half for someone that can make an iron man suit for me, but after seeing war machine in iron man 2 I dont want anything else but that suit!! I was reading MasterLe's profile and he says he goes to childrens hospital in his iron man suit and cheers up the kids! I would LOVE to do that, just think how great of a feeling it is to put a smile on those kids faces! Of course it would be a great suit to wear to costume events also, but that isnt the only reason I would want the suit. It sounds like I found the right place to find the people that can do it. I guess all I can do now is wait for a reply!

Someone did PM that is giving me a couple tips! And honestly I would love to have this for Halloween events, but even after those events I want to do what MasterLe is doing and visit childrens hospitals and other charity events in the suit! The best feeling I have had in my life was when I was in middle and high school when I helped the Special Education class by reading and playing games with those kids and when you put smiles on those kids faces there is not a better feeling in the world!

God I cant believe I didnt know about this site before! I have been on here non stop since I signed up looking at all the INCREDIBLE suits and other work everyone is doing!

From what ive heard, a finished suit can cost several thousand dollars. Do you really have that kind of money saved up for this?

If so, i'd say let the builders know how much you are willing to pay, and see if any will take you up on that. Just keep in mind that a lot of work goes into finishing a suit and those high costs pay for materials and the labor.

The other trouble is making sure it fits, most people that finish suits custom shape and size the pieces for an individual. That would be difficult to get perfect unless the builder is in your area. You will more than likely have to make some adjustments to the armor yourself in the end

to build a suit from pepakura you need:

a printer with enough ink to print the whole suit about 2 cartridges maybe 20 bux
enough 110lbs card stock to print on about 13 bux at officemax
an exacto knife and cutting board to cut the pieces um... 5 bux?
gel superglue (3 tubes for a buck at dollar tree) im still not done yet but i'd say about 10 bux
a metal ruler to get good sharp creases 3 bux
some masking tape to fill any holes from the inside and attach spacers 3 bux
enough resin, fiberglass, bondo, and sandpaper to finish the pieces this i'd go about 100 to 200 bux.
various paints variable depending on a custom color or rattlecans. 20 to 80 bux
a rigging system wont cost but about 50 bux in materials
and the electronics for the eyes chest and hands/feet maybe 30 bux.

all in all, not THAT much. :)

You only need to do one thing to get that suit (or any other): $$$
If you have that part covered, you've got the suit.

I agree,to build yourself you are looking at a few hundred dollars + or - depending on materials and such, but that is IF you are building it yourself. Pepakura takes a very long time to finish and if you are paying someone else to do it, your labor cost will be enormous.

Casted or vacformed pieces are quicker, but you have to find someone that already has molds. But its still gonna cost a pretty penny for finishing. Just keeping expectations realistic.

I guarantee there isnt a builder on here that would build, finish, and sell a new complete war machine suit for less than $2000, and that is being generous. Higher quality will always yield higher price tag.

I haven't even finished my pep helmet, but now knowing how much work goes into this, I wouldn't sell a new full suit for less than a couple thousand dollars.

Yeah, I have been saving for about 18 months and dont laugh at me but I have a little less then $2000 to spend on a suit. I have a lot of bills, plus I would have had more but someone stole my identity and spent my whole savings of $4000+ :(

I would LOVE to build it myself, but I know I would mess it up and then the couple hundred dollars would turn into more then it would cost to have someone else build it! I live in Colorado and I have seen a few people on here that build them live in Colorado also, maybe someone could help me build one? I could pay them to help me put it together so they are still making some money, but it wouldnt cost me as much!

If not I guess I will have to just keep saving, or sell stuff.

Um, I'll put it this way. If you want a War Machine for cheaper than having someone make it then do as some have suggested and DIY it. (wow that makes no sense if you actually read it. Do It Yourself it. LOL) There are plenty of resources on here and plenty of people more than willing to answer any questions you have and help you in any way they can. Just be forewarned, whatever route you take, it WILL take time (the Pepakura method by far taking the longest due to the fact that it takes mind numbing amounts of time to cut and glue every peice and then later when you have to Bondo and sand it.). I learned that the hard way and I'm currently stuck (due to the inability to use my printer right now) and unable to pep anything. If you have the patience and spare time, you should do it yourself. It'll be a great experience. Though I'm gonna say don't use Pepakura if you can avoid it. Once I'm done with my Ironman suit, I will NEVA, pep another suit. Helmets maybe, but NEVA another full suit. Anyway. Best of luck with whatever method you choose. If you decide to use Pepakura, you can always message me with any questions you have. Chances are if I don't know the answer, I can ask someone who does. LOL

Seriously, this isn't sarcasm.

If you realy, truly, honestly desire something you can make it happen. It takes effort, it takes desire and it takes time. If you really want a war machine suit, and you are willing to put forth the effort, search the existing Iron Man and War Machine threads, sit for a few hours and draw up a serious plan, get a few materials and start a thread showing your progress and you will get all the expertise and directional help you need if you are willing to show your progress and keep at it. I'd bet dollars to doughnuts.

Sorry to hear about the identity theft, really sucks that stuff like that happens to so many people in the world. It is good that you have some funds already saved up. I'd recommend giving it some serious thought before you do anything.

This would be a huge purchase and you wanna make sure that the money you spend on this is what you really want. I've seen my brother blow hundreds of dollars on stuff that he got a week of enjoyment out of then it goes in a corner. I'd make sure that you are planning on getting your moneys worth out of this.

Like tetsuyacasshern said, you could always by the suit in pieces. Start with a helmet and/or chest piece, save up some more, then keep adding to your collection. Will be less of a finacial burden, and if you end up on hard times you could always put it on hold and come back after you get more savings.

Like everyone said, if you really want it, you can make it happen. Best of luck to ya

Shade & Ghadrack no one would love me to build one more then myself! I am pretty good at most things I do in life, and I learn very quick but when I have tried to build anything I seriously just destroy it! I dont know what it is, but I cant build things! It's soooooo frustrating because I love doing things with my hands and being able to build and fix things is a great skill to have throughout your life. And I know that everyone on this amazing site is very friendly(at least everyone I have talked to :)) and will help me if I try to build a suit, but I dont know where to begin. You know what I am really hoping for is if someone that lives in Colorado could meet up with me, and actually physically help me build a suit! That would be my #1 choice behind winning a free suit, or buying a really good expensive one from someone very generous for cheap! I would love to literally build it myself, but with someone there to guide me! Oh just thought of a great scenario... Someone could build a suit of their own, while they teach me to build mine! Then we can both work on the suits together and they wouldnt have to go out of there way as much because they would be working on it also!

Wow sorry that was so long, I was typing everything I thought of!

Aron yeah the identity theft CRUSHED me! I am a 24 year old male and I was literally crying about it! My life is hard enough without having to pay $4000+ that someone else spent!

Yeah it is a huge purchase, but honestly its like a childhood dream to be a super hero and I know I would use the suit a lot! I was thinking about buying it in pieces, but wouldnt that cost more overall?

I am going to make this happen one way or another! It just might take me til next Halloween to get the suit! I want to own my own 100%, but if I cant afford one or build one by Halloween I wonder if someone would let me borrow theirs or let me rent it?

By the way Aron the Gators have been my favorite college team since I was 6 or 7 years old! And my DENVER BRONCOS got Timmy Tebow! WOOT!! *Sorry for going off topic for a second*

Sorry for the Off-Topic moment here but Tebow won't do as well as many people think. The ONLY formation he knows is the shotgun. It takes a while to learn to trust your offensive line enough to turn your back on them for a handoff which he never did with the Gators. My vote, as well as many others who watch football in the pros A TON, is that unless he can learn to run something other than the shotgun formation, he'll fail because he'll become so predictable. Unless by some miracle he's as amazing as Dan Marino and can launch a ball with pinpoint accuracy in 2.3 seconds everytime. Oh well. Maybe I'm wrong and the kid will be able to make it. Only time will tell.

Okay sorry, back on topic.

tet I know that I can edit, I am exhausted and drained and out of it from working in the almost 100 degree weather all day today! It wont happen again!

Shade I think Tebow will surprise everyone and do very well!

i think i have a complete set of warmachine pep files if you need em man. and feel free to ask for help in the pepping technique.
