Weather has been cooperating lately, so I painted the belt/tassets

not perfect... it is a li'l cold out for the finish to dry right, but I think it looks like rust damage to armor that has been in the field for a while.

It's currently sitting outside again with a coat of clear plastidip drying on it... I also hit the feet with the clear plasti, hoping that it'll stop the paint from peeling.

all that's left is to repaint my gaunts, get some cheap leg skins, and track down the chest armor and my upgrades for '09 are complete

the feet are cheap skeleton feet from a local costume store. if you look for Shockwolf's tutorial, they're the same kind. I spray-painted them brown, added the spots with tulip dimensional paint so that they're slightly bumpy and reptilian. I then painted the tips of the toes black to replicate claws..... the claws I glued on weren't holding well when I walked... kept falling off.

Cheers buddy, have to try and source something in the UK. You guys are spoilt for options that side of the pond!

because I already have the upper skin done... I don't want to make a whole new set when I already have this one in use.

I'm thinking some white lycra legs painted to matcc the top.... or some beige lycra legs with the brown drawn on.....

okay, got the bug again... had to suit up (kinda) to see how it looks so far:

shows just how much I ned some real leg skins :)

hands & gaunts are in the basement... didn't grab 'em, as I wouldn't be in the gear for very long.

working on some templates for the upper armor right now... I wanna get some football pads to mod, but until then I want to try to do my own.

I wanna take this out for a Blair Witch type thing soon.... and yes, I'll be sure to hsare with the Lair when I do

okay, temporary chest/back armor is tossed together.

this will be transfered to linoleum like the tassets tomorrow morning and hit with some hammered copper. the duct tape is just used for the pics to hold the right shoulder and rib area over to the chest. the final product will be held with nylon straps and industrial velcro :)

I will probably make a spine cover to go with it, as my back seems slightly.... bare when I add it, it will connect between the back plate and the back of the belt with industrial velcro.

okay, chest armor is transferred from paper/cardstock to linoleum.. straps are added, as is the spine cover:

spine is connected to the underside of the backplate and the underside of the belt with velcro.

the straps on the chest go from the actual chestplate to the rib via parachute buckle and from the right shoulder down to the velcro closure on the belt.

we're supposed to be due for rain for the rest of the week, so I don't know when I can get this out to paint up.

all that's left is to paint the upper armor, redo the gaunts, and make a real set of legs.

thanks guys :)

I have the velcro and straps masked off ready for painting.
I also took the dragon head off of my left gaunt, masked off the blade housing on my right, and took the leather lacing out of both of them...

I need about 3 days after the rain stops...
one to let the yard dry out, one to paint, one to let it air out

can't wait 'til I get these painted up

yea, I'm thinking that I should've done that when I did the exterior of it.

Meh... live & learn. :)

whenever I paint up the rest, I'll do the underside of the belt.

well, I did the gauntlets and ran out of paint just as I was starting the chest armor...... figures that it'd happen to me on the first dry day since Sunday. :)

next time I'm out, I'm getting more copper paint and do the upper armor....

got more paint today and did the upper armor in 2 coats :)

I'll try to suit up over the next few days and get some full pics.

hey bud, very bad ass costume i applaud u for your effort.... i been loking at your progress and its very inspiring for anyone who wants a costume and dont have the $ to buy all those props!!! u made a costume from everyday things that we can find around the house...... awesome!! keep it up.... :) ps: by experience let m tell u . he dreads are great but a technique me and my brother foundout by trial and error is. the tips instead of cutting them in an angle, turn stove on and VERY VERY VERY VERY CAREFUL!!!!!!!!!! (SHOULD HAVE AN ADULT DO IT) PUT THE DREAD OVER IT ,start stove on low and dread up high above the burner and slowly soften the backer rod till u can actually mold it in the shape of a real dread tip... tri it on a piece of the backer rod til u get the know how... hope i explain it ok... did i mention to BE VERTY CAREFULL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! CIAO..

hmm..... gonna have to try that with one of my spare pieces sometime......

thanks for the comliments. :) I'm just a simple guy trying to work my way up to the likes of Ruffkin
