With the comic book movie era just starting to kick into high gear, and DC possibly join in the running, the age old argument of Marvel-vs-DC inevitably rears its ugly and pointless head. I'm not hear to talk about that. Basically I'm just plain sick of hearing fans of the Dark Knight try to tear apart any and every Marvel movie just because it has humor (really rreeally good humor, with the exception of Age of Ultron, which was still hilarious but probably overkill for how serious the movie should've been). How is this a bad thing? Have they forgotten about GotG? That probably wouldn't have worked without humor. What about Antman? It wasn't as amazing as the latter but still a solid movie that required humor to function. On top of that, why do they seem to forget the really lame humor in the Green Lantern, or Batman Begins? Almost every quip in those movies fell flat and took you out of the movie. Granted The Dark Knight had some laughs, but these were almost entirely delivered by Heath Ledger's stellar performance, which the movie really rides on anyway, and I like the movie too. It just doesn't make sense to me how, in the case of the MCU-vs-DCCU, Marvel is mocked for being just hilariously funny at necessary times. We don't need the gritty reboot of Superman that we got, we needed a contrast to Batmans fitting darkness, which at times is still ridiculous and over-the-top. If everyone in this fledgling universe is mopey, where's the relatable characters and the uplifting moments that will become just as necessary as a Hispanic guy narrating a montage in Antman was, and that movie was an achievement to say the least. How can we just take Marvel's expertly crafted humor and label it as childish popcorn fare? These are for the most part quality movies guys. Could they darken up a bit? Yes! Could they get better villians. Yes! But for Comic Book movies' sake give Marvel some slack. I plan to go into BvS open-minded and I am unflinchingly pro-Marvel. Just give the expected game changers like Ragnarok and Civil War a chance, and if all of these movies suck on both sides, we'll watch Deadpool and laugh our balls off together.
