How to sculpt a 1:1 Bust

OK,
I've been seeing all these great scuplts and I want to give it a shot. To start I'm a poor SOB so I need to work on a budget and cast on a budget. I'm going thru a divorce and the whole nine yards so I do have time on my hands just now cash. So what I'm asking is how can I sculpt and cast on a budget if it's possible at all thank you all in advance.

I'm sure there have got to be some good instructional books at your local library. You may be able to find some instructional websites. I'm sure others could chime in with much more knowledge on this subject.

Here's a good DVD I suggest for anyone starting out, and it's very inexpensive...

It's a great way to get started as a beginner,
without spending a fortune on schooling.

There is also a great Book on Sculpting,
called Modeling the Head in Clay I have it myself.

Problem is that buying supplies can even be more expensive. It's an initial investment but once you get everything in order you CAN turn in a profit and turn that into pieces for your collection or put it towards more materials.

Example; I'm doing a latex head of the character Jen from the movie the dark crystal. I had to order clay because I was fresh out, had to drive into the city to pick up plaster, I have had to order all sorts of random parts like wigs, different colored hair for the highlights, glass eyes, etc. Lastly, I was fresh out of latex so that was 125$ for 5 gallons. Luckily though, i believe there is such a lack of collectibles for dark crystal fans that I will turn some sort of profit and hopefully sell a good 5 copies or so and keep my personal copy for myself. The profit will most likely go towards pieces for my collection....

Sorry for no technical support but you can get that from people far more knowledgeble and talented than myself. Just wanted to give you some sort of advice.

If at all possible find your supplies locally OR shop around for the best availible internet source.

Mark Alfrey has a great video series on sculpting, casting, mold making, etc.

I've known Jordu Schell for years, I even worked with him a few times on Movies,
he's a great guy and a talented Instructor.

As far as spending a lot of money on Supplies there are many places to buy inexpensive supplies
IF you are serious about doing this as a Career or Hobby

- Glad this question came up. Thanks for the information. I'd seen this video available before and now I know to pick it up for sure. I've got a talented friend who I know will help me too. Its so hard to cast your own head...

Wow. That guy doing the prosthetics is my old teacher Paul Thompson, from Joe Blasco's school. The school was crap but he and Mike Tristano were great in helping me along the way.

Would love to meet up with him although I doubt he remembers me.

ill have to pick that DVD i tried sculpting a slipknot mask using modeling clay on a plaster bust of my head,i sorta gave up cuz there wasnt enough of a neck to work on,and i didnt really know what i was doing
