How to: Fake blood/gore?

What's a good way to add fake blood and gore to a knife? I'm wanting something that looks "wet" but is dried completely for costuming. Any recipes or tips for adding this type of blood? All the recipes I've found are for thick or liquid blood, nothing like what I'm looking for.

Tamiya clear red, add some flour to it for added thickness.

That's exactly what I was about to suggest. If you want it really goopy looking, mix it up with some clear 2 part epoxy glue.

I bought a bottle of Tamiya clear red and some clear 5 minute epoxy. I was thinking about using the epoxy to thicken and "gore" the blade and then paint it with the clear red. Or, would it be better to tint the epoxy with the paint first?

I'll give different methods using epoxy, flour, and assorted other stuff a trial run this week to see which I like better. If anyone has a preferred method, you could post it here and save me some time.

Add some Tamiya Clear Yellow. Go 4 or 5 parts Red to 1 part Yellow.
