how this abrams star trek scene should have sounded

that sounds a hell of a lot better, my main problem with the redo was the god awfull soundtrack, just awfull

Meaning if Jerry Goldsmith had done the score? I'm confuseded!?

i'm just griping bout the 'lost' soundtrack guy score for abram's trek. I wish there had been an homage to Horner's version at this scene...

i hadn't realized how much horner's (and goldsmith's) score is associated with star trek in my head...

Mike Verta had a post about this at the time of the film's release.... yeah, the score is really uninspired.

Aw, man. You've gotta give Mike more credit than that, you know. He's written some great scores (and he was awesome enough to help me with my 'reel, too).

don't get me wrong, the man has talent. I hadn't realized how much of the goldsmith / horner score my mind associates with 'trek.' so much so i had to just put the old score on that scene just to cement into my mind this new ship actually is an 'enterprise'

Oh, those silly young composers actually taking steps to avoid using previous themes until the end of the film where everyone is actually leaving the theater.

I love the soundtrack to the Abrams' Trek.

They were going a different direction, needed new music.

Same guy did The Incredibles. Everybody loved that one.

Do you really need to rag on somebody because you didn't get what YOU wanted?

What a bunch of crybabies.

New directions are fine, i liked the redo, but for me anyway Trek needs an uplifting ochestral score, what they came up with just fell flat in comparison, if you have to change something great, but surely improve on what has gone before, not strip it of everything remotely similar

Giacchino has done some amazing work. Unfortunately, many of us don't think his Trek score is among them. It's not some anti-nuTrek thing (well, not all the time, at any rate), he's just done better work on pretty much everything else he's scored.

Yick, that scene with Horner's music almost comes across as campy. Wrong tone for the scene. Wouldn't personally have liked it if Horner composed for this film, but if Goldsmith were still alive, well...

I still like the standard version with Giacchino score. The classic 8 notes are still there, and we get a lovely version of the whole TOS theme during the end credits- I'm happy with it.
