How Star Wars exists for me now...

Pretty much the same but then again I always thought it like that even before the Disney things. I never allowed Sonic the Hedgehog lightsabering Yoda to taint the magical Yoda in ESB, I never let the carbon chamber scene be tainted by “oh look, Vader and 3PO together again!”, or Ben saying I don’t even remember having a droid be an issue.
I like TFA and I guess I kinda liked TROS but they are just like fanfic for me. I can watch the bluray but that won’t change my perception of ROTJ.
Didn’t care for Rogue One not a single bit. Mandolin is decent as its own things.
Curious as to how things will be moving forwards.

Lucas managed to set up Vader burying his past completely and Obi Wan said he didn't recall ever owning a droid and technically, he didn't. Him not healing Qui Gon and Luke not healing Vader are an entirely different matter. Sonic Yoda is a real matter of personal preference though. Flying R2 has always worried me. I plan to watch binge watch the OT as a palate cleanser soon and will look for any specific moments where the need to use it is obvious.

Jedi. I love this movie. Is it perfect? No, but I think it gets a lot of unwarranted hate and truly is a fitting conclusion to Luke's character arc. Star Wars ended here in 1983 with a happily ever after that I am totally satisfied with. At the end of the day, it's a fun, emotional fairy tale for our era and I loved it's conclusion.

As for the rest of it here are my thoughts. Everything outside of those three is just bonus material for that trilogy. It's not necessary to watch or even own but there is some good stuff mixed in there with all the bad.


Gendy Tartosky Clone Wars. It's a great mini series and I felt they really captured the spirit and fun of the originals. I got the sense of Anakin and Obi-Wan's friendship much better than in AOTC and ROTS. Some great action sequences too.

As for the rest of the films, I like elements of them. The PT had excellent Jedi costumes, and costumes in general, great casting, some great action set pieces, I'm looking at you Jango vs. Obi-Wan and FLAWLESS music. John Williams is truly a musical genius. I'd listen to those soundtracks any day.

Rogue One had cool space battles (just about the only one in the DSW canon) and the Vader scene was great.

The ST had Kylo Ren's TFA costume which is honestly one of my all time favorites in the entire series and I also loved Luke's costume in TFA and his hermit costume in TLJ and even his Crait outfit. I enjoyed three of John Williams new themes from TFA. March of the Resistance, Rey's theme, and the Jedi Steps are nice additions to the musical library.

I never saw Solo but I loved the deleted snowball fight scene. Just a great character moment for him and Chewie. Donald Glover was a brilliant casting choice for Lando too.

I also haven't seen the Mandalorian except for a supercut of The Child and my cold dead heart started beating again after a few years of lying dormant. He is so freaking adorable and he reminds me of the little kids that come through my work (in retail) that just make me smile. The show looks okay otherwise but after seeing that ten minute clip I was happy.

I love some of the EU, if only for the happy memories it brings me recalling the fun they brought when I read them as well as one of the most important and lasting friendships I've ever had so I'll always be grateful for those novels, even if just for that.

Despite what some of you may think, I really do love Star Wars.

May the Force of others be with you.

Holiday Special: Perfection.

Ewok movies: I remember them being epic at the time as a kid. I'm sure they'd hold up today. No?

The prequels: I just ignore the stuff I don't like such as midichlorians and over used cgi. I still love the music and lightsaber duels.

The sequels: I just ignore.

Rogue One: Good one to help me fall asleep.

Solo: If it ain't Harrison, it ain't Han.

Mandalorian: The only decent thing in Disney Star Wars.

I view the Star Wars series in separate tiers, for the following reasons.

1st tier: I can watch them at any time, and for any number of times.
  1. SW
  2. ESB
  3. ROTS
  4. ROTJ

2nd Tier: I can watch them periodically, and if my kids want to.
  1. TFA - I originally viewed TFA as a 1st tier film, until I saw TLJ and TROS. The after taste of the two latter movies has really tempered my initial interest in TFA.
  2. TPM
  3. AOTC

3rd Tier: Enjoyable films that I can watch periodically, but my kids and I really don't need to see again. To be honest, the fact that there are no Jedi in these two films probably affects my opinion of them.

  2. Solo

Ignore Tier: No need to re-watch them. They render the 1st tier to be irrelevant. However, note that I really want to like TLJ, as it's probably one of the most creative and technically polished SW movies. However, it basically deconstructs the OT as an intellectual exercise for Rian Johnson, and accordingly ruins the premise and the spirit of the OT. (Sometimes I wonder if Rian Johnson was making this movie for Star Wars fans, or simply to show everyone how smart and talented he is without regard to damaging the OT.) When Disney announced that all prior LucasFilm canon would be expunged, I didn't realize that the extent of this purge would include ANH, ESB and ROTJ.

I see parallels of what Alan Moore was planning to do with the Charlton super heroes when he was planning to ruin them in an exercise of extreme deconstruction. Luckily, the head of DC Comics told Moore to create new characters loosely based on the Charlton heroes instead, because otherwise Moore's initial approach would have damaged the legacy of those characters to the point where they'd be rendered unusable. Moore ultimately ended up with the Watchmen. Unfortunately, the head of Lucasfilm and Disney didn't curb Rian's creative, yet counterproductive film.

I think a certain member of this very forum keeps showing us that every issue that may cause confusion can be explained rather easily. Whether we accept that explanation or not is a decision we make for ourselves based on how much we like certain movies and how much we are willing to cut it some slack.

Other than those listed, nothing else has happened. Although I must confess that I do have strange but very faint memories of things like Yoda using a lightsaber, a clone war ending in betrayal, lots of cringe worthy moments, and someone yelling NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO... obviously in pain, but I felt nothing. Oh yeah, and something called midichlorians... but in the end, I beleive all of those are just part of some bad dream I had many years ago.

So in closing, as stated, this is how Star Wars exists for me now.

That sounds like a Terrible Nightmare you had about "Other Star Wars", as far as i can tell your list is complete. Oh wait.... a faint "bad dream" memory is surfacing about a..... Holiday Special.... with singing..... "NOOOOOOOOOOOO" Ahhhh perhaps thats where your "NOOOOOOOOOO" comes from AND FROM NOWHERE ELSE!

I have hear tale of a series depicting a younger Obi Wan Kenobi coming? That might be good to see what he was like a bit younger and fitter but that could turn out to be a bad dream too.
 
I was SO underwhelmed watching The Farce Awokened, that I'm DONE with SW. About all I can do is watch Empire until they all leave Hoth and split up. Han dealing with the Falcon was pretty good though.

Boom. Perfect. For me, the OT is the m u t h a **** i n' OHTEEE, and all that is really necessary. I have an encyclopedic (read as: "for reference purposes") background knowledge of those events in the PT, which I never have to revisit again (lookin' at you AOTC--I can stomach ROTS and to a slightly lesser degree, TPM), but am able to recount to the uninitiated who want to dabble in some GFFA goodness, based on how much time they have and how deep they want to go into the lore. I actually enjoy the ST, and save for some nitpicks in TLJ, totally dig what they did with what they had. That trilogy will be "A fine addition to my collection." (See? PT reference.) I'll definitely watch it for years to come, with the asterisk of being a fun extension of the story, but not crucial.

Rebels and Rogue One are all the "prequel" content I really enjoy and choose to rewatch. The Mandalorian? So far, sooo good.

Well the thing with Yoda, that's really the only way Yoda could be effective against a larger opponent. A Jedi has a lightsaber so Yoda would know how to use a lightsaber. I don't buy the theory that he's so advanced he didn't use a lightsaber argument.

I wouldn't say advanced but "above physical violence" Jedi are protectors, not worriers. They have the force to guide them in their duties so I like the idea of Yoda embracing that and not subjecting himself to such disruptive physical fighting. Then AOTC happened.
 
The Prequel Trilogy mostly sucked(to me), the Sequel Trilogy sucked(crashed and burned in all honesty, after TFA and my nostalgia glasses came off) to see it for the ****-stained poor attempt at a reboot/retelling of the OT that it is.

Clone Wars was good for not being what I thought “The Clone Wars” would be about(due to AOTC).

Rebels ranged from ok to iffy.

The Mandolorian is decent. Still hesitant about it and I keep waiting for it to crash and burn, which admittedly, keeps me from enjoying it more.

I only really enjoy the Original Trilogy and most of Rogue One...and you know what, I’m fine with that.
