How do you articulate Iron Man/War Machine abs?

I'm currently in the process of building Helagak's Mark 42 armor and I'm curious as to how some of my fellow, more accomplished, builders go about adding articulation to the abs in the armor so you can move better? I've seen a few videos on this but none of them have made much sense to me. Any and all help would be appreciated!
