How do I make a Digital Costume Pattern?

Hey,
I want to make a costume and needed a digital costume pattern to make it so i wouldnt have to buy it. I dont have Photoshop though, I have Gimp 2(almost the same thing) WOuld love it if somebody could SHOW me HOW to make my own pattern.

In my time searching theRPF, I've seen this question pop up a lot. Best to do a lot of research on here before opening a thread for it, though. For now, I'll just turn you to a few things I've seen Luna and others turn people to. However, I think these may be exclusively Photoshop based. I know the video is. Good luck!
