HOOK Hook? I don't know how else to say it...

This was a quick commission (about a month of building) for a client with a Halloween deadline...

I know you can tell that I am a hell of a great wood worker by this "amazing" glue up... haha

This is 1" MDF cut into squares and glued together to make a turning blank

I got it trued up and made it into this

Prime, sand, prime, sand... you know... (Rustoleum filler primer)

I did the same for the hook (yup, that will be a hook)

I had my buddy Justin make up some laser cut filigree stickers, I guess I didn't take a photo of it, but I made a mold for the spike and formed a casting into a hook shape while it was still curing

I covered it up with some primer and it stands out just enough

The original prop has some details in it that look like twisted rope I guess...??? I used solder that I twisted up with my drill and glued down with super glue

I missed the bottom detail photo, but to get this effect, I filled drinking straws with PU resin and cut them in half length-wise which I also super glued into place

I molded and cast it... I guess I forgot to take a photo of the glove mold I made but... Here is the first casting I made on my hand

The client didn't have the time line to get this thing chromed so I painted it up with Rustoleum chrome spray paint, rub-n-buff silver and gave it a black wash

I hope I have time this winter to make myself one and get it chromed something proper.... I hope you guys like it :)

That is fantastic, brilliantly executed, and just plain darned cool :cool !

Three cheers to you mate :cheers

Stunning work! Love the idea of shaping the resin while it is still curing.

Did you have any problems with the alternating hard/soft layers of the MDF?

Really, really excellent! This is the very essence of the rpf!

Fantastic Build! That looks really great. I actually love the darker, tarnished look of the hook. Remember, chrome wouldn't hold it's shine around saltwater :)

Thank you, nope. Lathing MDF and wood glue is like butter. It spits out more dust than wood, but at least it doesn't have the static electricity that resin does when it's shaved.

The only pain was the 7 layers of primer to seal it.

Awesome! Just saw the movie yesterday night again for the first time in years!!!

And when I saw your photos I thought "boy do I jope that Mr.Pinski has a good dust filter..."
