Homemade Dollar Store Robocop Auto-9

Planning on doing a Robocop suit for Halloween, and wanted to start off with a quick Auto-9. There were a ton online, but all in the US, and none of the companies would ship em to Canada.

The solution?

Grab the crappiest dollar store gun for $1.50, use the leftover styrene bits from my pulse rifle build and hot glue my own auto-9 together. Didn't put the love and into this one that I put into the nerf pulse rifle, but I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out for a quick afternoon build. Still need to paint it, but the modelling is done.

Starting point. The orange tip for the barrel is from a Sharpie lid I hacksawed up. One section of lid didn't have thick enough walls, so I just sawed off a bit near the tip of the lid and nested it inside the larger piece to give it some thickness. The rest of the Sharpie was used for the visible bits of the barrel inside the gun.

Whole gun together. The orignal toy also had a different grip, so I cut that off and gave it a flatter grip like the actual prop.

Next to the actual prop. Not ideal, but a passable version for a halloween build.

Grand total: $1.50 plus scraps.

I think this is the best result you can get for such a low budget. By the way, do you add extra weight in the gun? Maybe not in this one, but generally, to give it a more real feel?

Thanks :) it turned out better than I thought, considering the starting point. Should look half decent once it's all painted up.

and yea, I usually add some weight in. Didn't bother with this one though, other than dumping some hot glue inside the handle to stiffen it up.

considering time and budget, I think this turned out great!
very well done, sir! :thumbsup

Nice ,wish I had your abilities, need to scratchbuild me a pr shroud for a little nerf gun ,but never played with styrene, everything I have messed with was aluminum or steel .....you got skills brother.....

Looking very good. Please post a pic of it all painted up.

When you guys say Styrene, is that the same as HIPS?

thanks guys :) Now I just need to finish the rest of the costume :)

cavx: yea, HIPS is high-impact polystyrene.

Update: blasted it with paint today. The highlights are from a silver paint pen.

I think I'll add the extended clip in as well...it bugs me every time I look at it.

Wow, that's pretty good! Funny enough I had a lime green plastic toy gun when I was younger. It was years later I realized it WAS the Auto 9. Looking back I think it was bootleg toy of some sort. I don't know what happened to it...

I do have a airsoft of an Auto 9 now. I got it autographed by Angie Bolling and Nancy Allen :)
