OK, I have been waiting for a while to post and decided last night to go ahead and start working on my Lucille replica. I'm a cheap guy, so I don't want to spend a lot of bank. The bat I have had forever. It's a vintage Roberto Clemente that has been beat to death and, at one point in time, cracked in half, so it was rebuilt using brads. Anyway, I was trying to decide if I wanted to use the fake rubber barbed wire or real. The issue is, I haven't seen any rubber barbed wire I liked and, when mulling over the real route, I want this to be able to go into conventions with me.
So, I thought I would attempt to make my own. Initially, I used regular old electric tape (black) just to see if I could get the twisting bit down. Looked fantastic. But, it was black and, with it being vynil, I was concerned that if I painted it before I twisted it, the paint would flake off. Same if I painted it afterwards. Then I thought about plasti-dip, but, again, i wasn't sure if it would hold the paint.
Wife mentioned duct tape so, I gave it a shot. It has the color I like, but MAN keeping it twisted is a pain, PLUS, making the barbs is a bigger pain. Here are some pictures. Have any of you had any luck with the rubber barbed wire? Does it look the part? Amazon has some, but I didn't like the stock photo. Any recommendations of using the duct tape for the wire and barbs?
Thanks in advance for any help you all can give me.

The current incarnation, using the duct tape. ^^

The first attempt using duct tape. Notice it twisted wrong and I have two sides showing. ^^

With the electric tape. I loved the way it looked, but the color is where I am not sure how to do it.
