Historical Uniforms

Here are some Pictures of some of my Historical Uniforms.
The one is a Redcoat from the American War of Independence, the other is a Royal Navy Captains Dress Uniform Coat.
Along with it are some Nautical Tools.

Wow, those are BEAUTIFUL! Are you wearing them in reinactments or something like that?
:thumbsup
What else have you got?

The Sixtand i found at a flea market. Like all the other Naval Stuff like the Glasses and the Compass.

The Royal Navy Uniform is from a company called The Jacket Shop
The Redcoat is from a german manufacturer called Schuhnagel

As far as i can tell, both are in very good quality.

I do wear them on Historical Events, Live Role Plays and Costume Balls.

What else have i got. I have a Man in the Iron Mask Old Musketeer Costume with Hat, Coat of Arms, Jacket, Vest and Rapier. But i have to repair the Jacket a bit since it has seen some rough days.

I also have a complete US Union General Uniform.

Well its not exactly my History since i live in germany.

For one i am generally interested in English, French and US History.

And since i watched Movies like the Three Musketeers, Mutiny on the Bounty, Seahawk and such Movies as a kid, i allways try to find some historical stuff from that Era.

Excellent. It's good to see I'm not the only one who appears to be doing historical uniforms as well as other costuming. I don't want to hijack your thread but I thought I'd add a few pictures of the ones I've constructed. The Hussars uniform was just recently finished and the others were done over the past 3 years or so. I don't have pictures done of all the bits that go with everything, swords, belts, etc. I should probably do that in the future and post a thread on detailing an historical uniform properly, in my free time, whenever that might happen.

Wow, beautiful costumes! I would love to put together a French Fusilier or Grenadier, but I'm having trouble finding information on the clothing.

Thank you. They are fun to make, though rather time consuming, since I take lots of time finding the proper gold braids etc. to recreate an historical uniform. I don't have a lot of research material on French uniforms, I do mostly British. If you want to send me a PM with more details on what you want to make as far as regiment, time period or whatever, perhaps I can find something or at least point you in the direction needed to get started. I do have about 10 books on the Napoleonic War but they are mostly text with some contemporary prints of some uniforms and people. I don't know if you are familiar with the Men At Arms series of books from Osprey Publishing. They are small books, usually about 40 to 50 pages but they do have books specifically about individual regiments and are a good start. The illustrations are quite good. Check their website or if you have a real good Hobby shop that deals in military miniatures in your area, they should have Osprey books. They do show up on evil bay as well. I remember that Simplicity sewing patterns did have a Napoleonic uniform pattern at one time. I'm not sure if it's still in print though but those can be found through other pattern makers as well, usually small companies that specialize in reenactment patterns. I'll have to check my lists and see if any of the ones I have saved deal in that time period. Let me know if I can help.

Indipendence War Hero hm? That got something. I just viewed a few Pictures and the Uniforms seems doable. Thanks for the hint.

Those Uniforms are realy Great. I love the British Officers Uniform.

Also my compliments to the Husar Uniform, all those braids do seem like an extraordinary piece of hard work.

Thanks Keylab. It's always nice to find others with an interest in the historical stuff as well as science fiction and fantasy costuming. Yes, the braiding was a bit time consuming. The large chest braid I did by machine but all the thin tracing braid had to be hand curled and sewn by hand as well. I'm pleased with the way it came out since it took me 20 years just to decide I would do this one. A lot of procrastinating. Next I have to make the outer jacket that goes with it to really make it a complete uniform. Eventually I'll show that off but it may be a little while yet.
