Historical Artifact Replicas

I think it could be done easily with foam and paper mache... I think you just gave me an (insane) idea...:love

DO ITTTTTTT!!!!!! Chinese replicas are going for $600 shipped with no guarantee of it making it intact. Yea simple foam sculpture with a resin overcoat or paper mache to save $$. I would also like to do a cannon. Saw a few replicas in Genoa on a pirate ship and thought.... "Hell I could make one of these!"

I love the Key to the Bastille, sent to General Washington by his former Aide de camp, the Marquis de Lafayette, who helped liberate the famous prison

As someone who has held the original key when I worked at Mount Vernon, I gotta give a shout-out to www.mountvernon.org.

Copies can be bought there and you are helping preserve the estate! :thumbsup

I have replica of a wax seal ring that had the emblem of the crusader knights order of the Dragon. I believe it is the same group that Vlad the Impaler's father was a member of, and how he got the name Dracula (son of the Dragon). I bought it many many years ago at the Museum Company or a predecessor of. If it is accurate it woule be an authentic Dracula ring.

I've got a replica 1918 WW1 Colt 1911. Made by Colt no less. Made to exacting specification, has all the original markings and inspection stamps and rather lovely black walnut grips. Shoots remarkably well too.

I've had this idea of including it in a photo with other period items. I've made some replica paper money from the era but, I need to collect a few coins. I also want to try and get a vintage trench lighter and pocket watch, perhaps a deck of cards, some cigarettes, and a box of matches. I'm going for a bar type setting. It's still a work in progress.

I would love a replica set of nuke keys from the USA or USSR, as well as replica spy gear from real life, like the stuff at the International Spy Museum in DC.

Here's a few...

-Mitchell-Hedges skull - there was recent talks of this in the Indiana Jones/Crystal skull thread
-Bits of Noah's ark
-hand of glory
-Nazi flag with Hitler blood stains (I think this was featured in an episode of Millineum?)
-Bigfoot foot print plaster copy (mentioned earlier)

I'm planning to have a copy made, properly forged and so on by a decent swordsmith, of the 15th Century Flemish broadsword they have in the Wallace Collection.

I have also been toying with the idea of a replica of George Silver's manuscripts - Paradoxes Of Defense from 1598 and the 'sequel', Brief Instructions.

I tried my hand at copying a Brigandine, but I'm not that good at making stuff :)

A Piltdown Man Skull. There must be thousands of replicas out there that were discarded after the hoax was discovered, but I've not found any yet.

I am glad I found this thread since there are so many historical artifact replicas that I would love to own. I will star my list with the cartouche ring of aye and ankhesenamun from ancient egypt although there are many different cartouche rings that I would like to own, there are a few cylinder seals Id like to have copies of,the phaistos disk, voynich manuscript,a replica stone mace head from predynastic egypt,an egyptian khopesh, egyptian battle axe, many of the different palettes from early dynastic egypt,an egyptian bead necklace, crook and flail replica, replica of all the different crowns and headdresses of ancient egypt.
I ll stop for now as the list goes on and on.and some of this stuff is pretty obscure.

Obscure is great! The obscurer the better! I never even thought of the Rosetta Stone replica until this thread popped up years ago, and now I wish I could own one/have the room to show one off! Of course, at the prices listed, it's waaaaaay too rich for me. Added to the list of "if I win the lottery".

A crystal skull would be cool, but I'm not sure it counts as authentically "historical." :) Nevertheless, there are several replicas out there made from real crystal, many of which are ascribed strange powers by their owners. :)rolleyes)

These guys have them.
Mitchell-Hedges Crystal Skull Replica w/ Movable Jaw 4.75" High - Ruatan - Crystal Skulls, Books & Maps

However, the dimensions seem a little off: the replica is at "6" long 4.75" high and 4" wide," while the Mitchell-Hedges skull is apparently "5 inches (13 cm) high, 7 inches (18 cm) long and 5 inches wide."

Maybe someone here could make one by CNC with the help of this :

I was wondering who here collects Historical Artifact Replicas (or even the real thing!).

Does Admiral Horatio Nelson's naval dirk count?
I found this little beauty thru Craigslist 2 weeks ago! Sure, it's "probably" not Horatio's personal blade, but it's European and made between 1770-1820 with beautifully faceted steel accents!
And it was SOoooooo cheap, I practically stole the thing!:love

Here are a few pages from my digital replication of a 1930's Polish passport of a famous playwright of the time, Marja Szczepowski. The original that I found online had the name, birth location and photo obliterated so I had to do some research to come up with the correct info but I never found the photo and had to find a suitable replacement. I then had to make the handwriting to match the rest which was interesting as I know nothing of the Polish language. This was quite a challenge as it required more than just replicating the text but the texture of the paper background as a separate layer for printing purposes. I found it almost as challenging as passport security paper as though it is hard to see in the smaller pics that I've posted the paper is more than just a brown paper.

Nice stuff! I've been considering making vintage passports from the HPLHS prop CD for some friends of mine. You may have given me some mojo to get it done!

I have a lot of ancient Egyptian sculptures from Luxor that was passed down to me. They belonged in my family for many, many generations.

I've got a REAL spinosaurus aegyptiacus tooth!

As far as replicas, I've got several replica dinosaur bones (raptor claws, T-Rex tooth, etc.), a plastic replica of the Mayflower Rifle, a TON of replica documents (everything from American documents, to Titanic Blueprints, Dinosaur expedition maps, etc.), a REAL bullet from Gettysburg (part of an estate auction - I had it authenticated) along with a plastic replica of a Confederate rifle, and a plastic replica of the gun Alexander Hamilton used to kill Aaron Burr.

From a much more recent time, I also collect antique Kodak cameras. I have a nice display of Kodak cameras throughout history, right up to the first Kodak Digital Camera (consumer).

That reminds me... I have a literal BOATLOAD of dinosaur fossils! I have crates full that I need to go through one day and properly display them!
