Hinge for the back of Iron Man Helmet

Hi all. My first post on the RPF. I have a question about hinging the back of the Iron Man helmet. On the 405th I found a post about Dubean 33's helmet hinge set up where the back of the helmet swivels up inside the helmet to allow you to put it on and drop back down to "lock" into place. I was wondering if anyone had successfully done this and/or has any other suggestions on achieving this. Thanks in advance!:confused

Its how Sharheads 2nd most recent file (see my Ironman thread to see the pep) is designed to be put on. The head hole was designed for little wiggle room and so the back has to be chopped off once its completely ready for paint (i.e. hardened, bondo'd ect.) and then reattached by a hinge and, as punisher put it, rare earth magnets to hold it in place when closed. So unless you're to that stage where everything but paint is done, then don't worry too much about it.

Thanks guys for the help. Where can I get these rare earth magnets? Anybody else got any suggestions?

I also endorse rare earth magnets and used six to have a removable neck ring on a IM helmet.

I bought these...
K&J Magnetics - Products

But I would suggest buying a myriad selection of magnets from them to play around with. I've used as many as 66 different magnets on a single suit of Clone Armor.

My helmet is rather small for me so unfortunatley those won't really fit inside it. Are there any thinner magnets, preferably flat and no more than half an inch thick? Like a small rectangle if you see what I mean.

Nevermind, I found a set. These will work perfect for the latch as long as I can pry them apart easily so I can get my helmet off. As for the hinge, I may just go with a small hinge on the inside of the back or I mar just have the back detach and reattach completely by using 3 sets of magnets. Yeah, I'd imagine that will be easier. Anyway, thanks for the link TK.

Those look like they would work really well Shade, not big at all. As long as they are strong enough to keep it closed. I may look into using these and try to make a hinge work some how. And yes, thanks for the link TK!:thumbsup
