HIC Side Panel Discovery

Awesome find !!

I wonder if the screen used HIC used 8 original ones, or if they only had one and molded it ?

I think it would be easier to score just one original Derwent Balance Pipe then one of these, much less 8 of them.

The greatest find in a long, long time!
I echo the sentiments that the rest of this car should be looked at carefully for parts.

The Derwent engine, for example, was the source of many parts - mostly used as set dressing.

Since the Volvo dash was also used in the Falcon cockpit it's possible other parts were used on the ship or elsewhere.

Yes, I had wondered whether those funny clip things between the windows on the HIC parts might be some type of clamp or holder for the instruments in the bezel.

I wonder if the part on the Rebel Hoth backpack also came from the same vehicle? The headlight or indicator lamp housings.

Good idea. I was also checking the rubber gasket under the hood that looks like it could be IG-88's elbows. There's a cassette deck in Luke's X-wing cockpit, but so far I haven't been able to match it to any of the Volvo 343's radio options.

Seriously....NICE. WORK.

That is awesome, that we are still finding parts from the OT.....now let's get one of these dropped in silicone! :):thumbsup

It has. I worked with Darth Chromer so he'd be able to offer castings of them. His offer for this and all the sidepanel parts is over in the junkyard. Great stuff.

The clip things really have me bugged from a source standpoint because they just look like something you'd find under a dash. But Wayne, who is the guy that works on old car electrics in the UK didn't recognize them at all.

I sent him the high pixel count images I have of the prop to see if there was anything at all he recognized from this or any car over there and he had no success.

Also, could you check to see if it has these panel fasteners.
They are black plastic and were used on the forehead of the TIE pilots.

I was thinking maybe body panel or bumper clips.

I bet there is more good news coming.

How much would one of those cars cost so we could take it apart :)?

At one point we were looking for a car as one had recently sold for just 200 pounds. there are numbers of them in junkyards.

Since I *think* they used 8 actual panels rather than castings, my guess is they didn't actually come from a car, but rather the mfg or distriubutor as parts.

I figure that there should be tonnes of these laying around in salvage yards around here ... I have got to check!

Now, if we could only hear from the guy that thought that dash panel would look good on a prop he was building for ESB. Its a very obscure thing to add. Love to hear THAT story.

Hi
Wayne is a god mate of mine and I can tell ya he was gonna find out what that panel was even if it killed him. Well done Wayne and well done guys.
